I just spent 20 min on a phone call trying to get this guy to tell me 3 CHARACTERS!!!!
Which were PXB…

As you all know P and B can sound like T , V as well….over the phone
These characters are to be given to me ......that’s what we use to pull up their company…without it I cannot see their company. Its their ID
Its like calling your cell phone company and not knowing your cell phone number.
Not understanding him….I’m trying to get him to say words with the letter
ME: b- like Boy?
Client: Yes
Me: ok so it’s BXB
Client: …yes
Me: ummmm I’m not pulling up your company
Client: No Boy!
Me : Ok BX …..V like victor
Client : Yes …no …what?
Me: can you say a word that starts with the letter you are saying?
Client: Ummmm I no understand… Need to see if you got my payroll
Me: I cannot see that until we get your company code
Client: uhhhhhh I dunno
Me: :wtf: you just had it….. I just need you to say the letter with a word that it starts with
Client: b…like b……
Me: B like Boy
Client: …yes….. No
Me: P like Paul....
Client: No p...like p!
Me: T like Tom
Client : HUH?
Me: you know how Paul starts with a P ...Victor spelled with a V...can you tell me what word starts with the letter you are saying?...
Client: No
ARRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead:

Hahaha, yeah, thats my grandfather as well.

I feel your pain, I hate calling help centers and such which is even worse in all honesty... Called once, asked for a replacement stick of memory (it was under warrenty), they winded up trying to send me a friggin screen...

They can't even speak english...and they are running/owning a company and only have a Visa....No SS# which they can't be on their own payroll!
And they don't speak english good enough to understand when we explain it to them . :banghead:

When I worked on the IT helpdesk for AT&T Broadband I had guy (asian) that would call in regularly. This gentleman could speak maybe 4 words in English. One instance I remember in detail was when he called because his 'table' was broken. Now me being the IT Professional that I am told the guy to call facilities if there was a problem with his table. He argued with me for 15 minutes about the issues with his 'table'. After 15 minutes I was so frustrated trying to understand what it was he was trying to say, I asked him to put his supervisor on the phone. In less than 10 seconds his supervisor was able to explain to me that the problem was with the guy's docking station, which he referred to as a table.

Now I ask, how does one come about calling a docking station a table? Are there any languages out there where docking station and table are the same thing? :banghead:

You'd think the phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Brave, Charlie...) would help in a situation like this, but after reading the customer responses, I doubt it. :|

I got a call from an IT recruiter yesterday. He was Indian, and I couldn't understand half of what he was saying. After a few minutes he transferred me to someone else. "Phew!" I thought. He was Asian, and I couldn't understand him either. :banghead:

Yeah tried that..... came across the problem with Echo... They didn't know Echo was spelled with an E and confused them even more.

We try to use names to "TRY" and make it easier for them to understand...or words that 1st graders know...lol

Lets just go with what Suki Said... send them to Utah.

You get used to it. Ask the right questions and minimize time. Lots of heavily accented people in the US and other countries have the phonetic alphabet down cold. It's the ones who use their girlfriends names and stuff that are idiots.

Learn the REAL phonetic alphabet and repeat it back to them and you'll get the message 99% of the time and save giant headaches.

But what do I really know about talking to people/idiots anyway?

This reminds me .......I was sooooo pissed off the other day.... The Directv install guy came to my house a couple of weeks ago and when I answered the door you started speaking spanish to me, I said to him "Do I look Spanish to you???"

He kept trying to speak Spanish to me and after the third time I finally said "WTF.... I am not Spanish and we live in America speak English"

How about the best accents to work with?

My personal favorite is an Irish woman who works for a search engine-type company. Dusky voice with a lilt that could make me do just about anything. Switched shifts and now I rarely get to talk to her.

Wonder how that translates in espanol. Not sure if WTF is universal or not. LMAO
As a recruiter though, I guarantee ya .indians don't get it. Sucks trying to speak to a person about a job opportunity that they can't even communicate about. It's WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
