My buddy and I just changed the plugs on his '96 Suzuki Katana 600 and once we got the bike started it runs pretty well for about five minutes then it suddenly stalls. It doesn't backfire or miss it just quits. Any thoughts?
Thanks

why did you change the plugs?
are you sure you used the same heat range plug?
was it running ok before the change?
when it stalls does it start right up again?
when you say it runs for 5 minutes then stalls does that mean it idles for 5 minutes than stalls?
if you ride it does it keep running?
what adjustments did you make to the carbs?
have they been adjusted before?

We changed the plugs because the bike was more or less doing the same thing except at idle it was missing and would stall out much sooner. When we changed the plugs we found out that they were the wrong plugs, so in regard to the heat range I really don't know. After the change we had to jump the bike but seemed to start up immediately but after it stalls it would start again, we had it sit for a few days and started again but the whole process started all over again. As for the carb adjustments my friend had messed the choke adjustment prior to the change and after the change when the bike started with choke was open with his adjustment and bike revved sky high until he backed off the adjustment and closed the choke. For riding it he never got a chance.

sounds like it needs the carbs cleaned, rebuilt and set back to baseline settings. not terribly difficult if you have the know-how.

how soon is he looking to have this bike running? if you can get it to my house I would be happy to help out for a reasonable fee, but between a dirt bike trip to Utah (leaving at noon today for a few days), MRA and CMC meetings and teaching the MRA school next weekend I wouldn't be able to do anything with it until the weekend of the 24th.
you could also take it to Rays motorcycle repair, they're in the book. He's very good and reasonably priced. depending on his work load you may or may not get it back sooner.
