I have a hayabusa and decided I wanted a bit more power so I had a stage 1 turbo kit put on it. I got it back a couple days ago but today was the first time I "really" rode it on roads that weren't clogged with traffic and HOLY LORD!!!!! Its not just the rush of power when the boost comes on its the whole experience including the whooshing sound when the boost starts rising I seriously don't know how I got a kick out of this bike before this mod.

Anyway, a few months ago I asked advice on this sort of thing on this board (may have been the tech section) and everyone told me I was crazy so I just figured I'd follow up and tell you guys how that one turned out.

It made 230hp at 8lbs of boost - if you've heard of 8lbs making more thats because they were dyno'd on a dynojet dyno not a factory pro dyno (asking around I've found alot of ppl with 8lbs will get 230-240 on a factory pro and 260+ on a DJ). Whatever, I can tell you the numbers go out the door once you feel the boost come on.

Is it Candy Red? I saw one on Academy and (something South) earlier when I was riding.

Riding any turbo bike is a phenomelal experience. The sound, the acceleration... what a rush. I got the opportunity to ride a turboed Busa down in Phoenix last fall. I just for the life of me could not see taking it through any canyon or twisty with any authority. Get just the slightest ham fisted and your toast. I didn't feel totally in control of the power. The turbo just didn't feel linear enough. When giving it steady throttle it felt like it was jumping around. Maybe it was the bike I rode as it was just an acquaintances and not a bike I was familiar with. Then you have the reliability issues. Do you feel like you could go on a long ride with it? Say two days around Black Canyon, Ouray, Durango. What about longer maybe out to Cali.

Don't get me wrong, if you want a turbo on your bike, then by god get 'er done. Which you did and that is great. You probably didn't get too many positive votes when you asked here since most of us are canyon / track oriented. I have never seen anyone ask for a drag section here on this site.

After we get some warm weather and you get a chance to ride her more I would be interested in your opinion on the reliability and handling.

Hopefully reliability isn't an issue for a number of precautions I have taken - the compression has been lowered, it has a water injection kit, and it is only pushing 8lbs of boost which when you consider thats effectivly sea level + 5 lbs of boost since we loose roughly 3 lbs ambient air pressure. I did alot of looking around and most cases where bikes blew up was over 6 lbs of boost, stock compression, no other detonation preventing mods, and usually they installed it themselves.

Of course it'll cost more too keep up in tires, chains, sprockets and clutches and I'll have to be more conciencious of maintancence, ultimatly it is more prone to failure with more mechanical and electrical parts that can fail but as long as it doesn't blow my head gasket or punch holes through pistons I don't care (I have fingers crossed for next couple months). But yeah its going to have to last a few months before I attempt a trip that takes me more than 500 miles from home or across a dangerous road like I-70 through the mountains.

I'll get a few pictures of it later. I am going to repaint it as the fairings are scarred from a crash right now - although it is one hell of a sleeper with it all junked out like it is now.

Well you did the research and you had it professionally installed. That's where most go wrong on something of this nature. Good luck with the beast and watch out for the PoPo.

Are the cops in the springs still pulling you over and ticketing for "non-stock" exhaust or was that a short term thing?

If you are running methanol I would be careful not to run more than 15% meth. A lot of people end up with detonation issues running more than wiper fluid (which is usually not more than 10-15% meth.
