Himilaya and 48th.

I was on my way home from getting some food and a couple of cop cars driving really fast with their lights on flew past me and on the opposite side of the road I saw a Blue and white Yamaha Sportbike in pieces and about 25 to 30 feet from the bike the rider was covered with a white sheet.

I hope that this wasnt anyone from here. RIP !!

This is the only thing that I have found so far on the news:

That sucks. Its kinda bad with the potholes, gravel, and occasional slick spots out there. Now all we need is some dumbasses who don't know how to drive their cars... oh wait..

Aw man that sucks. I remember just driving along and having traffic just slow way down all of a sudden and thinking "Man, what the hell are these people doing OH MY GOD". Accross the street all I see is a bike on the ground and a guy on his back, his head under a red SUV driven by, get this, a woman on a cell phone. I don't know if he died or not (it couldn't have happened more than 30 sec before I drove by, and the only reason I didn't stop is that there were already 30 people around him and since I don't know any life saving techniques I'd just have gotten in the way) but I certainly hope the woman in the SUV got arrested.

More info on the crash:

"A man was allegedly speeding on his motorcycle when he lost control and hit a fire hydrant at the 4700 block of Himalaya Saturday. Police say he was killed instantly."

I just saw it on channel 7, it looked like an 05 or 06 Suzuki GSX R. The news reported a woman saw a guy doing wheelies just before the accident but couldn't report if it was the same person. I always think what could have been done to prevent a fatal accident like that. A real shame.

Wheelies, speeding in town on roads that require an SUV to negotiate. I don’t mean to be insensitive but it sounds like the dude died of stupidity.

...it'll get someone else to ride a little safer.

That was my point...no intent on dissing a dead guy. The Post says “A 57-year-old Denver man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed near 45th Avenue and Himalaya Road on Saturday afternoon. The rider was not identified. He was driving too fast when he hit gravel and dirt, and then crashed into a fire hydrant, said Detective John White.”

Regardless.. a rider died today, yes I agree that everyone can learn from it. No, I agree because no matter how long you have been riding, there is ALWAYS something that you can gleen from those around you. Some lessons can be learned while out riding and having a good time, other lessons are learned through the hard lessons of others. If you feel that you learned everything there is to know about riding in the first year you owned your bike, you are a fucking god. In the meantime, if the rest of us can discuss what happened and where things went wrong and prevent another rider from making the same mistake, than I would gladly participate in that.

The point is that this sport remains highly fatal. The point is to ride however you want, but in the right environment. The point is to minimize factors that can cause serious injury or death. It is why we wear helmets and other gear. The streets are a constantly changing, never ending set of hazards. I agree with beotch on her points as well. If u think u learned everything in one year, don't ride near me. I have 20k miles in the last 2 years of riding in south florida which has some of the worst drivers anywhere. I consider myself a good safe rider. Yet with all that experience, I have not riden 1 mile on Colorado roads and I rely on learning from others for knowledge to be able to safely do so. This is what separates those who know how to operate a motorcycle from those who are good riders. The sooner you learn this, the longer your life expectancy.

no i learned that no matter where you ride or how you ride you can die..... no matter how good or bad of a rider you are....

ten31
Thu Feb 22nd, 2007, 08:14 PM
For one, as we get ready to start a new season of riding, be careful what you do while on the bike. Its a reminder of something we all learned in the early stages of riding, yet often forget.

The second thing you can learn/remember from this is that there are people who will be affected should you be injured/killed and that often times, whether single or married, they will carry the emotional scars.

Third, the roads are way too dirty to be messing around.

Is that enough for you?

no i learned that no matter where you ride or how you ride you can die..... no matter how good or bad of a rider you are....

While agree you can die at any time. There are things you can control and things you cant. Mitigating your risk is something you could learn. Getting hit by a car? Unforseeable. Looping the bike while performing a wheelie? Preventable.

Understanding the mistakes of others and implementing them in your riding makes you a better rider.
