Heres some general information on the FAQ's
The class time is regulated by the NRA for atleast 8hrs, 4-5 hrs class 3 or more for range time.
Depending on the county where you live it could take up to 90 days to get approved/ denied for your permit.
If you have no felonies or Domestic violence charges you should be approved.
You cannot carry in Hospitals, govenment buildings, Colleges (unless otherwise stated by the University)
Private Businesses reserve the right to not allow Firearms in the building, but must be stated in obveous place (ie front door)
CCW does not give you the right to flash or threaten anyone with a firearm and will get you in a world of crap.
The CCW only pertains to Hanguns and not any other concealable weapon.
Before obtaining a CCW you should review the Laws pertaining to Use of deadly Force.
Certain states do allow Colorado's CCW permit as valid in their states (see links below)
You will have to pass a CBI and FBI Criminal Background checks as well as finger printing and photographing.
Depending on the county most charge $150.00 for you permit and its good for 5 years after which it is $50.00 to renew.
The more training you have in your background the better it will be if you have to go to court over use of you firearm. (ie NRA classes, personel protection in the home, personal protection outside the home, Basic pistol, etc).
You should consider a NRA membership.
You should atleast shoot 1-2 times a month min, to keep yourself use to your concealment gun.
You should use a caliber that you are comfortable with.
Use of your firearm should be the absoulte last resort in prevention of serous bodily injury or death.

Dave and I got our permits last summer, the class we took was held at the Gander Mountain in Northglenn and we both really enjoyed it. Too bad Denver takes so long to get you your actual permit.

What kind of average delay has Douglas been running on average to file and get the permit to applicants?

To be perfectly honest I have no Idea about douglas county. The best I could suggest wold be to call and see, but most likely they will tell you no more than 90 days. Sorry I wish I had a better anwser but I dont.
Price should be no more than $150.00

Any idea if completion of a Frontsight Defensive Handgun class (http://www.frontsight.com/courses/defensive-handgun-training-course.asp) will suffice for the training requirements? It's 4 10+ hour days of range and classroom training, but nothing state specific in terms of legal info.

Should be acceptable. We dont cover anything in the way of law anyway. Colorado state just wants a basic Safty course in firearms, so you should be fine. Just take the certificate to the county sheriff where you live and they will tell you for sure. You should be fine.

I was under the impression that as long as the county can't find a justifiable reason not to allow you a permit they should issue one.
With or without any specific type of firearm course.
(Though I completely agree that anyone planning to carry should have as much training as is possible.)
If not the case, do you know if most counties tend to accept things like hunter's education, 30+ years of hunting licenses, (NRA recognized) high power rifle courses and matches, etc.?
I haven't had any hadgun specific courses (primarily a rifle shooter) but I have used handguns most of my life.

I should have been more elaborate... The CCW is a Concealed handgun permit. therefore you must have a Hangun safety course completed prior to applying for the CCW (or ex military or law enforcment within the last 5 years). I agree that there needs to be some updating but as far as it reads... (this is from boulders website)

even though you may have tons of experince with rifles, shotguns and hi-power rifles, you still have to have a safety course in hangun's. You wont be able to conceal anythig else but a hangun once a ccw is obtained.
I have the permit packet from boulder which is similair to other counties if anyone wants it I will gladly sent it via email or you cant download it at this link

Ok now to some news...I have talken to the owner of safearms academy and he is willing to let us use his classroom most likely the last weekend in aug (25-26) and he also reminded me for those of you that have experince that we can do Airsoft drills instead of live fire at a range. If we were to skip live fire, I will still go over stance and all that per Nra class requirements. If we were to do airsoft it would lower the class price significantly. I will finalize the details by next friday and have a price and date. Anyone interested it will be 1 day and I'm a very fun guy, its a no stress atmosefear and if anyone wants extended instruction and live fire I would be willing to do that one on one for free (you provide ammo and range fee) But if you can master the fundimentals on a airsoft pistol then you can most definatly translate those skills to live fire. I will teach you how to deal with recoil so dont think I'll leave you high and dry. we also go over cleaning and if you have any questions about the firearm you have for CCW or want help in deciding on a firearm I woud also be willing to go with you to choose your CCW handgun.

So what you are saying is that even if I have my hunter safety card, that I need to take a Handgun course before applying for a CCW? Just want to make sure so I don't pay the fee and get denied because I don't have the other course.
Also, do you happen to know where I could take the handgun course?

Additional info- www.cbi.state.co.us/ccw/reciprocity.asp (http://www.cbi.state.co.us/ccw/reciprocity.asp) . You may not carry, in addition to what's been mentioned already, in K-12 schools or in buildings which have a manned metal detector. Current classification in action shooting sports - IPSC/USPSA, IDPA, etc also suffices for training.
There are links on the above page to all the pertinent statutes.

You can also call the Gander Mtn. off of I-225 in Aurora. They have a guy named Kevin that gives a really well done one day class there. I think it was $100 there, then you just pay filing fees when you drop your paperwork off at the local courthouse.

You cannot carry in Hospitals, govenment buildings, Colleges (unless otherwise stated by the University)
Private Businesses reserve the right to not allow Firearms in the building, but must be stated in obveous place (ie front door)
The only places you cannot carry are those prohibited by the Federal Law, inside PUBLIC K-12 schools, or a public building with someone electronically screening at EVERY entrance.
You can still carry onto private property, the most they can do is kick you off and ban you. Hospitals Goverment Buildings (Non-Federal) and Colleges are likewise ok to carry on given they don't electronically screen you at every entrance.

*Note to navigate better I found clicking on the folder to expand and using the back button is about the only way it works for me.

Although many places will still take your DD-214 past that time.
Plus Colorado is an Open Carry State with Denver being the Quasi-illegal area due to a tie in Colorado's top court, 3-3 with one judge self-excused.
