You're taking me back to 1975 when I first started to fly. Man, that was an unbelievable time for a kid like me.

hooked up with a guy on my ride today that wants to do some hang gliding. He owns his own glider and says it's easy. I'm a little cynical when it comes to that stuff being I've never done it before. I think I'll end up on a side of a mountain somewhere but he says it's cool as long as I stay in the "bubble" of air going up. What do you think being that you've been up there?

I've never been hang gliding before, but the theory is sound! He's right about riding the thermals though, you can stay up for hours if you do it right.

Very cool! It's definitely better to set a routine and keep to it like you're doing too. Welcome to the skies!

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday morning calling in for some touch and go's on his 2nd solo... He sounded pretty confident until he got lost on the way to the runway. Of course I probably did that once too. Fun memories.

losted on th' taxi-way??

thanks for the welcome!
sadly, I feel my CFI is one brave girl. Until you make that first 20
landings & see n feel the right approach speed & pitch angle,...

well, 'fly the pattern' & I feel fine,.. cross-wind practice last Thurs.

Yeah, which is sorta funny at Centennial since you basically just go to Alpha and hang a right, but the intersection is a little confusing to a rookie so I can see how he started to wonder. He did the right thing though, stopped and asked for help. When in doubt that's always the best thing to do; runway incursions suck!

Heh, fortunately I think CFI's sort of expect your first approaches to be a little "off". Believe me if it were that scary she'd grab the controls before you knew what was happening. CFI's are brave souls, but most have an impressive self-preservation instinct.

I had a fun one yesterday, came in way too high after having to extend out to about a 3-mile final and mis-judging my distance. Did a sweet full-flap forward slip and dropped it like a rock at 60kts into a perfect flare. Good landings are so rare I just had to brag a little. :D

I actually like crosswinds... I tend to takeoff and land better in them. Plus I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've been on a runway in totally calm winds, so it's a good skill to try and perfect. :)

perhaps one day, when there is a ride planned that does not get
too mountainous,.. an aerial escort could be arranged?

even better if we have a formation escort! yay!

I always wondered if a group ride looks fun from above???,...

not only that, formation flying means throttle-jocky ( a skill I will study )

That looks awesome. I haven't flown in awhile. I crashed an older mooney during takeoff during a solo flight out of Akron, CO, when the crosswinds were right about at my limits. crosswind caused one wing to come up too soon as I didn't have enough aileron into it, and this in turn cause the nose gear to come off slightly. I then got the wing down and straightened the plane with rudder, then the nose gear touched again causing me to be swiftly directed off the runway, down a hill, thorugh a fence and onto a county road.

I can't wait to fly again. It's been about 2 years, but I'm SO ready.

ouch @ the thought of driving yer plane through a fence,...

meaning insurance activation; prop-strike to say th' least?

luckily we had a steady cross for practice,.. the lil light sport
cannot handle much cross,... perhaps 12 knots?

variable gusts & ground rotors frighten me, so I like to keep the
speed up on approach,... so far have always lucked out w/ nice
flying on High pressure days,... I did 3 full-stop landings n 1 go 'round.
