I need a little help with the GF's 929. Her brother wrecked it about a year ago, and I have slowly been getting together all the parts to put it back together, and now I have all the parts.
The work that needs to be done is basically an engine swap from the old, trashed frame, to the brand new frame, and the steering stem put in the new frame as well.
I have been quoted by a 'garage repairman' 600-800 bucks, and 2 months to do the work... I find this simply outrageous. 60 bucks an hour, what a shop charges, thats like 10 hours worth of work. I tore the old steering stem out of that bike in less then an hour. To top it off, we are moving within a month, and I have to have the bike at least rolling so that I can get it in the back of our truck.
Bottom line, I have never done the swap before, and am not willing to trust myself fumbling through the fundamental mechanics of the bike.
I am not asking for free work, I understand someone needs compensation for their time, but 600-800 seems awfully steep. I am more then willing to help, bring the bike and all the parts whatever, I am just on a tight budget and time schedule.
Anyone able to assist on this? I can post pics later today when I get home to kind of help gauge the work required.
Colorado springs local prefered, but I can get it to denver if i have to.
Thanks in advance!
