Michael Vick may have flushed $100 million down the drain by backing a dogfighting operation. His guilty plea on federal charges will result in prison time and suspension by the NFL.

Vick, 27, may attempt a comeback sometime down the road. But sponsorship deals with Nike, Upper Deck, and Rawlings Sporting Goods are gone — and his notoriety will make him a difficult sell should he play again.

His 10-year, $130 million contract will evaporate, too, and Falcons owner Arthur Blank could demand repayment of at least some of Vick's $22 million signing bonus.
Rather than earn $20 million a year in salary and endorsement fees for the next several years, Vick will spend millions to clean up his various legal and public relations crises.
"We have not seen a fall from grace like this in contemporary American sports," NFL agent Leigh Steinberg told the Los Angeles Times. "No fall has been this rapid or dramatic."

I know people are gonna jump all over me for this so let me start by saying I am not defending and/or saying what he did was acceptable. However everyone is so shocked everytime a professional athlete does somethin stupid. Lets be honest the leagues are giving 20yearolds and sometimes younger millions and millions of dollars and their only job is to show up and play the game well.

It's unfortunate that so many athletes fall in with bad crowds and entourage's who are only in it for the money, however I don't think we can forget the fact that money makes people crazy and most athletes come into the league with nothing and are given everything and anything and then we wonder why they think their above everyone else.

Once again not defending, but the whole system is broken not just Vick.
IMO

I know what your saying but what Vick did is pretty bad in my book. Not just allowing the dog fighting but the execution of dogs as well. Abuse towards animals or children in my book are a huge no no.

I could give a sh*t less if Vick died, no matter what the circumstances were, no matter how bad his death was, I wouldn't feel any type of sadness, as a matter of fact, I would go out and drink a beer in celebration.

And I don't even drink.

While the guy is surely a piece of shit, I find it sad that there's more outrage over the killing of dogs than the 3 riders that died recently up here. And, I saw another got hit on I-70 near Vasques? this morning, and the newscasters said it was pretty bad.

Ok so just STOP paying them MILLIONS to play a FUCKING GAME.
So what are they going to do? Ah they will keep on playing for a reduced salary. WHY? Because they are just playing a GAME.

No one is going to pay these shitnecks a salary to do anything but play ball.

Come on what else are they qualified to do?

That's the point, very few have the life skills to do anything else so when they're not on the field they're making bad choices. But stop paying them isn't an option sports are a huge market I mean it's like an 8 year waiting list to get broncos season tickets. There always gonna make crazy money.

It's not the fact that he is an athlete.

It's not the fact that he is rich.

It's not the fact that he is a rich black athlete.

It is the fact that he broke the law, he did a very horrible thing, he said some stupid shit "No matter what happens, People will still like me". It's the fact that fucking civil rights leaders feel the need to defend Vik. (Why the fuck would they feel the need to get involved?) It's the fact that he thinks saying I am sorry and I found jesus, which is the right thing to do right now, clears him of all wrong doing. Why in the name of all that is fucking sane does this piece of shit get the option to plea bargain? He is stone cold guilty, why does the prosecution want to cut this fucker a break?

I hate to say this but I wish this had happened in Boulder. That ignorant bitch would be taking cack in the ass for 10 years. And now he gets to wait how many goddamn months to find out what his sentence will be? It takes that long?

Yeah, I am disgusted with Vik, the lawyers, the media, and the fucking legal system.

Holy shit this is gonna be a shitty day.

Well, I think that's going a bit far. Most athletes at that level are pretty well equipped to succeed in life and do well after retiring. The problem is that the bad apples get the attention and then people want to lump everyone together.

Michael Vick clearly did some pretty vile things. I don't know much about his personal background but it sounds like he chose to hang around with a questionable crowd rather than trying to do something more positive with the fruits of his accomplishments.

I know I would not be where I am today if it were not for football. Playing football can, and does, have a tremendously positive impact on young people. It certainly did for me and that is why I coach at a local school and refuse to accept any salary for it. I owe a tremendous debt to the game and I try to repay it by using it to intercept and correct the kind of personality that leads to the kinds of behavior exhibited by Michael Vick. Every one of you has the ability to achieve the same result using your talents and I encourage you to explore opportunities to reach young people and help them become positive contributors to society as opposed to sick people who enjoy watching dogs kill each other.
