Projector problems

I have an In-Focus projector that is having troubles. It was givin to me by a friend, and said that it didn't work, but he said the bulb was ok. Does anyone know how to fix/troubleshoot these, or know of somewhere I could take it and it wont cost me a finger or two.

What doesn't work on it? No display? No light? No image display? Fan not coming on?

ok, the thing turns on, and sounds like it spins up, but no light. I yanked the bulb, is there some way to tell if it is bad?

Also i am not sure if the bulb in your projector is sensitive to oils from your hands so be careful handling it....

What model is it? I have an extra lamp you could use to test it with.

In-Focus LP400 projector. I think I need a new lamp too, but he said he tested it before he took it. I bet he didn't know what he was doing, and tested it wrong.

I ebay'd it, and couldn't find much on it. I did google it and found a manual though.

Better deal might mean cheap knock off, meaning dropping another couple hundred prematurely.....
