A while back at one of the parties at my house a guest fumble dropped the tank lid on my upstairs toilet. I couldn't find a replacement locally so I hit the web.
From a national plumbing supply company:
http://www.plumbingsupply.com/tanklidsinstock.html#briggs
Briggs # 3300 / 7469: white - 18 1/2" x 8 1/4" - made in Ecuador = $222.87
That price is just for the lid.
Unbelievable.

Looks like someone was trying to leave you an upper decker.

I think I'll just go next door and ask the neighbor if I can use their can while mine is "being worked on". That, and a over sized coat aught to do the trick.

Pitch that Briggs POS (cheapest you'll ever see in a new house) and get a Kohler. You can get a good one complete for about $140-ish. The trick with those 1.6gal/flush models is set the water absolutely as high as possible without it constantly triggering, and when there's solids, flush and HOLD the lever down until the tank completely runs out thru the bowl, and then a couple seconds more. This gives you a couple gallon flush to clear the S-trap. If you just hit the lever, there's a 50% chance the next guy to flush will get a surprise. And, if THEY'VE dumped in it too.......:shocked::scream1::banghead: Also, for best results, put in a Fluidmaster fill valve instead of the stock one if it's not already a Fluidmaster. Plus, get one of the new wax rings with the foam gasket inside and heat the mating surface of your bowl with a heat gun until pretty warm (not hot), they seal much better.
If ya need help, let me know. I've done it a few times. Happy flushing!:)

You might also try Do It Yourself Plumbing. They're on Brighton Blvd and...31st? I had a briggs lid break on a job last week and they had the hook up for $45. He said it was about the 4th Briggs that week. There is also another lid that fits, so even if they don't have them in, you might be able to search the other and find it cheaper.

Mmmmmplumbing.
My dad is a plumber, and Im always amazed at his stories of stuff he's pulled out of toilets (potatoes, shampoo bottles, kids's toys, cell phones).
By far his grossest story is of a service call he did to a house in a pretty shabby section of Downey, CA. He went to a house with a dead lawn, chain link fence, 2 pit bulls chained to a tree, like 10 people living in this run down 1950's house. They told him the toilet was broke and pointed at the bathroom.
Well yeah, the toilet was broken. Had been for some time apparently. That didn't stop anyone from using it though.
Yep, the bowl was FULL. Oh yeah, and they took off the tank lid, and the tank was full, too.
:cry::shocked::cry:
Then, the homeowner was irate because he said it wasn't fixable and he'd put in a new one if they wanted it.
No, my dad didn't touch it. He called their emergency cleanup services guys (people that clean up after a flood or whatever) and had them haul the toilet out. He came back later and put in a new one.
Now he works managing a huge plumbing/pipe supply place, so he only has to touch shiny new toilets.
