Are you planning on trying to buy tickets online Monday? Will the servers crash? Will there be problems with firewalls, cookies, CC processing, etc., etc. Post up your online experience here. With my crappy dial-up, I doubt that I’ll be able to even bring up the site.

ROX and SOX!!!

I'm a huge fan of the Red Sox (born in NY and went to Red Sox Nation when I was about 8 or 9). I actually plan my military trips to see the 'Sox. I'll be online trying to get tickets along with my wife, mom, sister, and sister-in-law. Hopefully one of us gets threw! If I get extra tickets, i'm selling them for FACE value to fans of the game.

On a side note, i recieved a call from my POC with MEPS (place you go to get your military physical prior to shipping off for basic training). I might be able to run the unvieling off the US Flag as part of the pre game festivities. They need 30 Soldiers, and told him I could support the mission. More to follow!

People who have no physical geographical ties to this area are able to hop online and try to purchase tickets with the sole intent of making money from the tickets.

When tickets are sold at the venue, you actually have to travel to that location, or hire someone else to go there for you. People in China, Canada, Georgia, California, all with no plans on going to any of these games are buying and preventing true fans from getting their chance to see history. Unless you want to pay $3500 for a pair of tickets. The franchise and the entire league will be chastised for this decision. Yet ANOTHER reason I do not think adults who play games for a living should be paid squat. If someone did not have to pay AROD $250 million to hit a ball, well, families would actually be able to afford to go and watch these 6' tall children play their games. The players are greedy, the owners are greedy, the fans are greedy. Yay professional sports!!!

Years ago I set up the "lottery" system for Ticket Master sales at outlets. We did this because people were waiting in line overnight to buy tix to concerts. Sure, for some it was fun, but for others it meant a knifing. Too many fights, boozing, scalpers sending drugged out kids to wait in line in bulk, and concerns for other local businesses safety prompted this action.

It didn't matter what time someone showed up, as long as it was just before the drawing. Everyone would pull a movie stub and the line-up would begin with the lowest number. We did this at every outlet. Within one show sale the word got out that it was no longer of value to "camp out" and the problems ended immediately.

But, if you were the 10 person in line for a popular show with only one date, forgetaboutit. Phone sales would hit hard and a show for 18,000 would sell out in a matter of minutes. Sometimes even the fourth person in line would say, "Hey, what the hell? My tickets are in the nose bleed section!"

The smart folks who weren't desperate to see a show but willing to wait would watch for the following: As managers, we would watch the sale count and if the show was about to sell out and other cities had shown enough value to sell a second show we would immediately open a second one for sale. Then, the chances of getting good seats jumped up dramatically.

Of course, that won't happen with the WS tickets.

But, had they initiated a lottery system, with a random electronic drawing for priority to purchase tickets,it would have made the whole thing a lot easier. But what would be the fun in that?

Travel agents, soon to be insurance agents and event ticket sales at outlets will soon be a thing of the past thanks to the internet.

Mon Oct 22nd, 2007, 11:26 AM
I got the big Goose Egg too...

I understand why they cancelled the ticket sales at the stadium...fist fights, robberies, violence...but i feel they should allow those in CO to be able to purchase tickets for the first hour then allow the entire world in on it. They did this a few years ago when the Bronco's were in the Playoffs.

pilot
Mon Oct 22nd, 2007, 11:34 AM
One other thing. If you like to watch music artists, or any other venue style event and you're willing to take a bit of a chance to get a good seat, try this:

After all the lines at the ticket booth have died down and the main act is about to get going, check with the main ticket office. At nearly every event "artist holds" are set aside for the act. This is just in case their friends, another band, industry reps, the press, etc, show up for the gig. The band has to buy these in advance and they want to dump them as soon as possible so as not to get charged if they can be resold to the public. This means, you, the buyer, have a shot at near front row seats.

Ever been to a show and seen that block of empty seats by the stage that no one ever sat in? That's them.

Also, if you are having a crappy time at a show and have crappy seats, go to a supervisor and tell them. They usually have upgraded seats to get you away from the drunk in your section and happy you up.

Well, good luck getting WS tix. I'll bet there is going to be a lot of bad press about this whole thing. Of course it will be forgotten Wednesday.

Hi everyone -- I'm wanting to impress a very pretty girl by getting World Series tickets in Denver to watch our Rockies play the Red Sox. I'm having heaps of trouble (and no love) getting them online so I thought I'd try here.

I really can't afford to do more than the face value but I'm sure we can work something out -- financial planning advice (fully licensed), Search Engine Optimization work (which I bill at $200/hr), or more.

I need 3 tickets (her sister will be in town for the weekend) for Game 4 of the World Series. Can anyone help a brother out?

Yep, what a bunch of crap. We've been trying @ work and it's just a shut down.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/sports/14388078/detail.html

<...Denver Public Library branches that usually open at 10 a.m. were to open 15 minutes early so fans without Internet access could buy tickets. None of the fans we talked to at the library were able to get in either.

Club president Keli McGregor said earlier that the Rockies consulted with Major League Baseball before making the change to online-only ticket selling.

Rockies spokesman Jay Alves insisted the club's computers were ready to go and said the staff is prepared for any crashes.

"We don't anticipate that, but if something happens, we're ready for that too," he said earlier.>

I could not agree with Dana any less. Nobody *has* to pay anything to A-Rod, not 250mil, not $2.50/hour.

The way they earn their rate of pay is not any different from any other person who works for somebody, to make their living. Now I'm not talking about the "value" of the work they do, as it relates to society's wellbeing; that's an entirely different subject.

But still.... He's obviously worth the money he makes, otherwise he wouldn't be making it. We're not exactly talking high-level economics here.

To fault the players in any way, because of the $$ their talent earns them, is nonsensical. We all want to get paid as much as we can, for our given ability. And greed not withstanding, they're all obviously worth what they make. Just like each of us is worth what we earn. If we were not, well.... Well I guess the answer to that is rather obvious.

I played every sport imaginable when younger. Talent is rare for sure but ya know what? How does a person who hits 40 HRs a year become "worth" more than the person teaching your child how to read? How does a damn free safety become "worth" more than the guy who saved the life of a father who was in a terrible car accident? No, they are not obviously "worth" what they earn. haha it's not an entirely different subject. A $25 million a year hopscotch player, best in the world, has many champ rings, should get paid $25 million a year for playing hopscotch? Really, we all want to live a pampered life, but paying someone an outrageous amount of money to play a game is ludicrous.

This is an issue of what you personally "value" (not you barn, but whoever is reading this :) ) I have found that MOST, but not ALL, of the time I encounter a person who thinks athletes salaries are justified, that they are materialistic people. Not that it is good or bad, just an observation.

Oh, and I am worth more than what I earn. Money is not how I evaluate myself :) I am VERY rich in many other ways.

OK, so now the Rockies say that the tix will go back on sale on Tuesday. They also say that the site was "attacked". I guess that's what they call it now when too many customers try and buy at the same time. I'm sure they'll try and isolate a few IPs to solve the problem. And if anyone is using automated software to buy up tickets, they'll change that IP.

I can't believe they won't sell tickets at the local dugouts and at Coors Field. I'll bet there'll be extra cops on hand at the park to keep the customers in check. This is BS.

Welcome to the future.

I think in my readings on the ticket sales broker for the Rockies that I found that there was quite a bit of Canadian interest in their backing. See, while we are all looking to the south and getting distracted by our brothers from south of the border, Bob and his clan are getting us good from up north. I say we move the border 100 miles to the north and absorb them.

But your dealer doesn't use unfair or malicious tactics to get their parts that they then sell to you. In short, they "play by the rules", whereas ticket scalpers don't...

I'm not buying this lame story that they suffered a "malicious attack" making it sound like someone executed a DoS attack against them. I'm betting they seriously underestimated the demand (from fans and scalpers) and got caught with their pants down. They probably didn't figure on people using multiple machines to try to get in. We'll see what happens today but I predict more of the same. I hope they prove me wrong.

8+ million hits in 90 minutes is not a DoS attack. I am sure they were running flood control. They knew what kind of network traffic they were going to get and could filter everything else out. even a DDoS could be detected and stopped pretty easily

I think they were completely overwhelmed. I think they missed the boat on this little online plan of theirs. They promised they were prepared and they were no where near it.

Yesterday, they were supposed to give another news conference at 4pm, then pushed to 5, then to 6, then I gave up caring.

I think they kept pushing it out because they had no idea what to tell the fans of Denver. Instead of working on the problem, they were probably in a conference room trying to concoct some rationale that might be suitable for the people of Denver to hear.

Screw tickets, my money is on the fact that it will probably happen again today. I to, hope that I'm wrong. But the fans that have hung in there with this team deserve better than this.

At the end of the week we both have a penny.
Spend it well and buy our stuff.

Happy Rocktober,
All the staff at the marketing and sales office

In the end the tickets will be sold and the stands will be filled and we will have a winner for the WS.

About another crash: TicketMaster and Comcast are major partners in this matter. They'll be allocating whatever it takes to make sure that the service works better, perhaps not perfect, this time. Even if many fans get the window of death, "please stand by...59 seconds," others will make it through to sell out the shows in less than 30 minutes.

Blow me Barn. At least Matt is a fan of the game as opposed to a money hungry slut for a scalper.

As far as the other guy....I'm pleading the 5th.

And if I get some, I'm gonna go on CL and see if some poor lil hottie girl would actually "do me" for the chance of being there. Then I'm gonna meet her at the stadium and keep walking. :doublefinger:

Pick me Pick me I'll be your little hottie........I'll let you lick the boots!!! :D

This explains it. Here is a top-secret pic of the server they're using to sell the WS tickets:

They probably didn't spring for the 16K memory expansion until yesterday.
