Damn proverbial sayings that turn out to be true! :scream1:
I thought I'd disprove the "most people drop it at least once the first year" saying. Nope. It's true. Damn.

So anyhow, Saturday night, about midnight, coming home in the cold and rain. Made it all the way to my neighborhood with a lot of confidence. Too much damn confidence. Overestimated my traction through a turn, rear tire spun out and left me way too fast for me to really do much but get thrown. Bike lowsided (think that;s the right word for it) and skid a 360. I did hang on long enough to not get thrown on in the way of the bike and hit the pave and tumbled. Good news is I rolled almost right back to my feet and stood up, checked everything out and was very lucky. Barely a scrape on my knee. My back's sore as hell but it's already jacked up anyway.
Can't say I'm too bummed considering I walked away.
Down side, my Shoei took a thump, right to the front...I loved that helmet! *snif* Other than that, lost my left footpeg, left side exhaust is toast, left mirror toast, left clip-on adn clutch lever toast, little grazing to the left fork right near the axle, tiny bit of rash to left fairing. Possible sub frame damage from the exhaust taking a slam, which is mounted to the passenger peg, which is hooked to the subframe and so on. Who knows what else. Fun stuff.
So, I called my insurance (Statefarm) Sunday morning. From here, i guess they call me and get an adjuster? i can't ride it anywhere so I guess they send someone to me? Of course I'll call and get my Q's answered.
What's odd is they were trying to refer me to some local body shops. That didn't seem right. I don't want a body shop fixing anything on my ride. Waiting til tomorrow for TK to be open and see if they work with Statefarm.

So, yeah. Great weekend. Really though, I can't complain much. I'm ok and insured. Guess it could have been a ton worse. Guess i'll be way more careful in the rain in the future.

Very good to hear you are ok man. The bike will be good as new soon. You can use your free time now to think if you are gonna make it a street fighter or turn her back to stock!!

Thanks dude. :) Yep, already been contemplating that. I've seen some pretty nice looking Superchicken street fighters. Definitely something I'll have to sleep on.

Glad your OK!!!! Bikes can be fixed. Gear and insurance are probably two of the top three things to have when you ride. I'm glad our resident icky bug man is here to tell another icky spider story LOL!!!!!!

Awwww Man, so close and yet so far away. I'm bummed to hear you took a spill so close to the driveway. But I'm glad that you are doing alright. :)

For a second there I thought you were going to say that you got bit by a spider. Good luck with getting everything back together.

Over confidence has gotten me more than once. But, like you said, you walked away and seems like you learned a good lesson, too.

Insurance will do its part as far as replacing your gear. Your bike? Gah, I hated not being able to ride. Do as much as you can to get yours up and running again. Here's some tips and hints...don't wait around for insurance, the adjuster, or the shop to call you on estimates, etc. Keep on them and ask lots of questions.

An adjuster can come to you to make an initial quote, but that quote won't be the same as what a shop will do. So, get your bike to a shop as soon as you can.

The first time I crashed, the estimate was based on stock parts prices straight from the manufacturer...ouch, cuz that estimate would have totaled my bike. I had a second estimate done and that one was based on BikeBandit pricing on all stock parts. The estimate came under where insurance would have totaled, so I got a check instead and got my bike fixed.

If you are thinking of keeping your bike, then be tough and be your own advocate.

Thanks for the tips, Mtnairlover. I've been on 'em since yesterday morning. Hopefully will be hearing from the adjuster this morning sometime.
@Bluedog. Much appreciated, the offer on the peg. It'll probably be covered but if not, I'll pm.
Unfortunately, no gory spider stories today. It's early yet though. Who knows what the rest of the day will bring.

Other than all that, you guys are all cool as hell. :) Thanks for the thoughts. I'm just hoping it'll all get fixed soon.

There is another old adage “The bike ain’t yours til you drop it…”

Congratulations… the bike belongs to you now

LOL!

If you love your bike
set it free.
If it lowsides
it is yours.
If it doesn't
it never was.

Hmmmm if you low side and your medical bills easily outweigh the damaged to your bike, does that mean your bike owns you? Imma hope'n not.

Oh, something else that occured to me. As far as my insurance company was concerned, as long as the "shop" I took my bike to had a tax ID, then insurance was happy. So, the shop could be an auto radiator shop, but as long as there is a tax ID attached, then my insurance was happy. That's just a "for intance", but you get the idea. I'm not sure if all insurance companies work that way, but that's how I worked with mine.

Sorry to hear that man, but glad you're ok. Over-confidence can easily severely injure or kill you. Just pick yourself up, fix your bike, and use this as a learning experience.:)

Feeling much better now. The bike is on it's way to the shop finally and I could not be happier. The last couple days of 70-something degree weather was getting pretty depressing. That and the sight of her sitting there, busted up and looking all pissed off at me.
I feel like a kid a week or two before Christmas. :)

The irony...I'm waiting to hear if I may need spinal surgery or not. Life....
