Anyone else not have a garage? I have a cover and a graphite cable lock, but wondering what others do when the white stuff comes? Any tips? suggestions? Thanks.

When I was in college I used to put the bike in my kitchen when it snowed.

Good call!
Besides, how much room do I need for my Ramen noodles anyway? I can always put the industrial size box on the back seat, right?
On the downside I'm on the 2nd floor and I'd prob fry the clutch going up the stairs b/c she ain't real torquey :( Great suggestion though; if I could I would.

I was on the second floor too:shocked: I got pretty good at riding the CBR600 right up the stairs.

- Give it a good last cleaning, complete with chain waxing/oiling, etc.
- Change your oil.
- Take out the battery and hook it up to a "tender".
- Put it up on stands if you can, or try to at least roll it around every week or so, to keep it off the same spots on the tires.
- Prior to the final park, cruise around to use up all your gas, and then drain the rest out of the system, if feasible.
- Avoid all of the above, and ride it whenever you can until Spring rolls around.

There you go... best advice of all.
After all, this is Colorado. We have excellent riding days year round.

My big concern in college was people hitting it in the parking lot in the snow. That is the only time it went inside. The rest of the time I rode it.

I ride year round, but have room in my garage in Superior if you do not have other options.

If you are not going to be riding it for just a couple of months, get a U-Store it Shack and put it in there. It is pretty cheap insurance and you do not have to leave your baby outside, unattended.

I'm not draining/storing mine, cause I do plan to take her out still, but when the snow's coming down it's nice to have her inside.
I'll offer up space in my garage in Westminster for a minimum charge...:guinness:.

I ride mine when ever I can through the winter. When it's sandy I just take it gingerly around the block.
It's in my garage. During really cold spells I put a light bulb on the engine just in front of the back wheel. As long as the snow melts in the garage I think it's safe.

Didn't you burn up the clutch? A guy warned me of that going up stairs. It's what I want to do, and have room. I just didn't want to mess up my little baby.

That's goal #1. I haven't stopped riding yet, and I don't intent on it. Just remembering last year with the 14 weekends of snow consecutively. Got to have a back up plan!

Sweet man! thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind!

1. ditto on riding
2. won't your naked SV have "coolness envy" if mine is parked next to it??
3. I have very firm rules about paying people with beer...I have to get extra so I can drink too!

The trick to riding up stairs is to do it in one smooth motion. You set your speed before you hit the steps and maintain it all the way up. Weight slightly rearward and you will have enough traction that the wheel is not spinning yet the front will climb easy. So there really is not any effect on the clutch.

Dude, that's nuts. I was going to stand next to it and use the power of the engine. You're crazy!

I think I'd rather die of exhaustion pushing the bike up than riding it. wouldn't trust myself, and those 180 degree turns up the steps would be a killer.

Well, "flights" of stairs with turns are a whole different story. (fun pun).
My place in college did not have any turns in it.

Thank you to all for this post as I had the same question. Except I don't have any stairs but I also don't have any room inside so it wouldn't matter if I did.
Barn - your tips were especially helpful. I knew most of those tips but I'd forgotten about draining the gas...
Not having a garage sucks! But oh well...do what ya gotta do, eh?

Glad to hear it Shadi. Here's to hoping you don't have to shelf it for the winter.
(Then again I do want ski season to be sick, so....)

My thought is to not drain the gas, but add stabilizer if it's going to sit for a while. Then you can still take it out when it's nice.
Anyone confirm?

Shadi, We could probably find some space in my garage for your ride if you like. I'm close enough that it would be fairly easy for you to pick it up to ride anytime you want.

It's funny how you tell you the guys to ride their bike up and down a flight of stairs during winter; but you're more than inviting for the ladies to come over to your garage. :slappers:
We see how it is.:hump:

WTF? I thought Cole was going to do it? He's the master. I would give it a shot, but it'll take 3 things:
1.Tequila
2. updated life insurance policy
3. onelocked's bike

Sabil in the gas and a full tank is also a good option. Make sure to ride it several miles after adding the Stabil to make sure it gets all the way through the fuel system.

Haven't checked the site for a while. If you need a place in Boulder, you could probably leave it under my car port thing. Not enclosed, but its got a roof. I don't think the roomies would care. I'm not going to doing anything special with mine, I want to use it if there is a sunny day.
