Sat Nov 10th, 2007, 11:02 PM
Well.... it turns out I didn't have a seperated shoulder. Its broken. The dr said "its really weird, most people are pretty beat up when they have an injury like this. Luckily I was in the laethers, boots, and helmet. Gonna go in for surgery sometime this week. I think its time to give up the riding for a while. I have a ton of gear, and I think I'm gonna try and e-bay away the stuff you guys don't want. I'll post it in the for sale section. I was wondering what you guys would think about parting the bike out rather than sell it as a whole, seeing that the subframe is broken and its pretty scratched up. Daemon- I'll get your strap back to you. I'm really sorry to every one that was on the ride. Just mark it up as just another stupid squid. Sorry guys, and thanks for makin sure I was alright.

Sat Nov 10th, 2007, 11:19 PM
Sorry to read you binned it. I thought I had a broken arm when I crashed in August, but it wasn't. I did end up with a separated shoulder, tho. I think it's toast for the rest of my life. Meh, I'm old, so it's about time;-)

A lil bit of advice...don't beat yourself up! That's a very hard lesson for me to learn as well. And I haven't been riding long, so it's even harder for me. I understand wanting to be done with riding, though. I struggled with the idea, but I haven't ridden enough yet to be in that position. Hmmm...maybe that knock to the head was worse than I thought;-)

Don't know if that helps any, but best of luck and hope you heal quickly.

Sat Nov 10th, 2007, 11:42 PM
Well, between the way I wrecked and how I like to ride, I just think its time for me to cool it before I end up dead. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into it in several years. I think I'd kinda like to work on bikes a little in the meantime.

mtnairlover
Sat Nov 10th, 2007, 11:45 PM
Ah, nuff said. And I won't look ya up for my crashed bike, cuz I don't plan on crashing again...but, may look ya up for other stuff that it may need in the future.

On a lighter note, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the ride today. For me at least it was great day. Sorry if I slowed you guys down to much (only been riding for about 6 months) but it was perfect for what I need. You guys rode just fast enough that it made me push just a little but not outside my comfort zone. I usually ride alone and just play it safe staying at the speed limit so without the little push I don't end up progressing too much. Even though I'm still pretty slow, I tried to use what I learned from Pilot's seminar and it really helped.

Thanks again guys.
Kory

ps. Sorry for looking like a total squid riding with my blinker on for so long (and completely missing the hints) That new windscreen is blacked out and being as tall as I am I can't see the stupid turn signal indicator unless I'm fully tucked. After that dumb move I'll be sure to pay attention to turning it off from now on :)

Yes thanks Mayo for the great route and a fun pace.

Man, that inbred homotocidal redneck van driver was one sick MOFO. After I squeezed past him I gave him a big one-finger salute. Then I remembered we were on a dead end road. I had visions of the end of the ride being like in Easy Rider. :(

And Kory, don't feel bad about the turn signal. I just started riding this year too and I forget sometimes. That hand signal I gave you for the turn signal I found at www.willowcreek.org/motorcycle/hand_signals.htm (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/www.willowcreek.org/motorcycle/hand_signals.htm).
I just found a different one at the AMA site. See www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/groupRideSignals.asp (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/groupRideSignals.asp). That's probably a better one to use. Anyway it takes a while to transition from trying to remember to it becoming a normal step in the turning process. When turning into a parking lot I try to keep my thumb on the switch and cancel it mid turn because there are so many distractions there. That's when I'm most likely to forget.

Tarded, glad you're going to make it, albeit with some surgery. That was a hell of a lesson for all of us that push it on the street. Don't rush into a big decision, eh. Maybe a bike that doesn't beg to be thrown around and ridden on one wheel could provide some fun for you. I'm sure that if I was riding a 999 instead of an ST2 I'd have wrecked by now. Different bikes invoke different riding styles.

Well here's my contribution to the memories:

Yeah, I don't think its the bike really. And I think I'd find myself pushing too hard on a vfr. I got some x-rays that I'll try and scan in some time. Its pretty mashed up. Dr kept saying how unique and thrashed it was. Thats the second "unique" break I've had. Luckily, I was in a room next to a group of people involved in a drunk driver pileup. One guy was in a dodge pickup and got hit hard enough it broke his pelvis in 2 and will have to have a rod through his femur. Puts it in perspective.

Sounds like another CSC wreck in the making... dragging knee is going way too fast on public roads IMO, especially given the falling temperatures and increasing probability of dirt on the roads.

if you are reading this.
i apologize again for being the club papparazzi.
it's one of thos asshole services i provide.

you did not ruin the ride in anyway.
the ride was done.
you did it,you finished it with finesse.... just a little too much finesse is all.
reconsider what you said about riding in the future.
we talked about this.
if we feel we are getting out of control on the street....it is time to take it to the track.
all i'm gonna say...

All I can say is I hope you get better and get back on a bike again at some point. Things like this happen even if you aren't draggin the knee in a corner, all it takes is a little bit of gravel in a corner and anybody could have gone down...you could have also been a lot worse off too. The plus side is you at least got to ride most of the season, could have been a lot worse if we were just getting into spring when this happened!

Sun Nov 11th, 2007, 10:47 PM
Took Central City Parkway to 119 up through Nederland and down into Boulder on Saturday. There was a lot of sand on the shoulders and centerlines.

Hope you get better soon Tarded... almost left the "ed" off the end, but then I don't want to be insulting.

From the looks of the weather forecast, mountain rides are pretty much done for the year...be safe out there kiddies.

Not a problem. Made an appointment with Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies tomorrow, but I don't know if they'll go ahead and slap me in surgery or schedule it for another time. If theres interest I'll keep you posted.
