I have a Kershaw (http://www.kershawknives.com/productdetails.php?id=60) that has become a little dull and would like to have it nice and sharp again, but want it done professionally. Does anyone know of a good place to have knives sharpened?

Kershaws have kinda soft metal for the blade. For the fast and easiest way. Just go to the mall and pay the 5 dollars to have someone do it. They use a simple belt sanding tool. its really hard to f-up a knife with it. Or you could invest $30 get a diamond knife shaper and learn to do it yourself. :) Everytime that i finish my cold steel knife, i can shave with it. Got to love'm sharp

I can do it myself, but it has a serrated edge that I would like to have done also. I've had this knife for just better than a year and the blade as just started to dull recently. When it was new I coulld shave with that bitch also! lol
I kinda wanted to have a professional work on it, not just some knife shop at the mall. I can send it back to kershaw and have them do it for free, but the time it takes to send it and get it back is too long for me.

thats going to be the best for a serrated edge. Sadly there are no GOOD options when it comes to serrates.

+1 at the gun show, he sharpened mine and polished it too. Cost was 2.50.
To get in cost $6 plus the $1500 you spend on the ammo and guns you may buy. So be prepared to spend $1,508.50.

I bought the Spyderco kit a few years ago. I just sat down and re-watched the instruction video. Serrated knives are no problem at all. I would recommend watching the video (I can loan it out). You will learn a ton about knives and how to sharpen them.

This Kershaw is recently dull because I opened about 5 or 7 envelopes with it about 3 weeks back. No lie! Nearly 10 of them!
I had it for about a week and opened my T-mobile bill, a couple letters from work, a bank statement, the usual. Big-J left it in my car!
Well what I didn't know at the time. (and now do, thanks to Big-J informing me!), is that nothing planet Earth will dull a blade faster, than opening mail with it. "What the fuck! Why were you opening mail with it!?" "Anything but paper!" he told me, as his knife blade lay slowly dying.
I was just as shocked at this news as the knife blade must have been, as I sliced it's pansy-ass clean through that deadly material, known as a standard envelope. It was like I did it with no remorse. It's still hard to think about without getting.... emotional.
But use my story not as a pity party for me, oh no!! I know better now. But use my story as an example to you, to not make the same mistake I did, and cut paper with a Kershaw knife! For the love of god and country, do not open mail with any knife!! Mostly Kershaws! They simply cannot tolerate the dulling effects. I had no idea is was the kryptonite of the blade world. The thing is practically misshapen now, and god knows I could have used my letter opener and maybe saved this knife's life.
So open coconuts if you must. Cut brake lines. Saw open a can of WD-40, or just hack and hack away at your sidewalk, but for all that is holy.
Do. Not. Cut. Paper!
(I can't believe none of you other elitest knife A-holes never dropped this gem on me before. I could have saved this POS knife from dull blade purgatory, and myself a reading of the riot act!)

I had to sharpen mine last night because i used it as a screwdriver and broke a large portion of the edge off.
I beat the shit out of my kershaw, then i sharpen it back up and use it again. It's going on 3 years of daily carry. Mine also has a proper blade angle for this though.
17° Angle - A severe angle reccommended for razor blades, X-Actoİ blades, scalpels or similar tools. Provides an extremely sharp but delicate edge.
20° Angle - A commonly used angle for higher quality blades and provides an excellent edge for kitchen cutlery and filet knives.
25° Angle - The recommended angle for most knives that need a durable, sharp edge. Ideal for hunting and outdoor knives.
30° Angle - An outstanding angle for knives that see the heavy use of cutting cardboard, wire or carpets. Recomended for heavy duty use.
If you want to open mail with a knife, use the back edge. Just like when you're chopping something on a cutting board use the back to scrape the stuff off the board into a bowl.

+1 SpyderCo. These kits aren't cheap, but they work magic and they store in a drawer compactly. Worth the $$. I have used this kit on the mighty beloved top of the line Henckle's some of which are serrated. Did a great job for me.
This is the one I had: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SP204MF

A good knife sharpener is worth it. It like buying a set of knifes you need something to keep them sharp.

hell you guys think paper is bad? Try cardboard! At my old job i was cutting through 5-10 cardboard boxes a day along with tape and whatever else you could through at my cold steel. Still proves to be the best blade out there! even if they are made in Tiawain now

If you own a knife, in the world of blade edge weapons, having someone else sharpen your knife is like Tobey Keith driving a Honda.... its a sad day in redneckville when tobey is driving that honda ridegeline....
