View Full Version : Where to take the parents to eat in Denver?

My parents are finally coming out from California to check out life in Colorado. Mom has never been to the state, and Dad has mostly just driven through. I think my mom pictures me living in a cabin in the middle of Wyoming or something.
As their tourism in Denver day, my husband picked up some Avalanche tickets, and my mom is looking forward to shopping the big REI. While in downtown, I would like to go to eat somewhere that they can't go to in California. Dosen't have to be fancy. A local brewery with good food maybe? A unique steakhouse? Homey italian?
Please recommend.

Price?
There's any number of unique restaurants in and around the downtown area that have really good food. Just depends on what you want to pay.
My two suggestions:
1. Rocky Mountain Diner (http://www.rockymountaindiner.com/index.php) - Good food, prices aren't insane, right downtown so it would be good either before or after a game.
2. Buckhorn Exchange (http://www.buckhorn.com/) - Truly a unique Denver landmark. Awesome restaurant, seasonal menu w/ wild game and the like. Not cheap, but really good.

CASA BONITA!!! Do they really have cliff divers?
Price?
$40-50 a head dosent seem unreasonable if it was super awesome.<-- price isn't really the consideration. Cool local flavor is.

Do you love your parents and value their health?
Yes, they really do have cliff divers, Southpark wasn't lying!

At that price, you have a ton of options downtown. I'll see what else I can dig up.

If they are willing to try new foods, try a morrocian rest. in denver (off colfax I think, maybe around cherry) It's called Mataam Fez. It's like a 5 course meal approx $40 a head and it's the best food ever!!! and the experience is awesome!

Bastien's Restaurant (http://search.cityguide.aol.com/denver/restaurants/bastiens-restaurant-inc/v-101451296) is really good food and it's been around for nearly 50 years.
The original Chipotle near DU.
Beaujo's Pizza -- that's Colorado.
Have dinner at the Brown Palace. Lot's of good food and atmosphere.
There's an Italian restaruant near DU I'm sure I could find, but I can't think of the name of it -- but that's a really good place for food, plus a lot of sports players eat there. Saw John Elway there one night. He nearly backed into my friend's motorcycle after leaving (he was a bit tipsy).
