Don't wheelie in Florida. :D
The only thing I don't like is that it singles out bikes. There is a shit-ton of dangerous behavior out there besides wheelies. If you're going to do this for dangerous stunts on bikes you need to include street-racing, drifting, etc. etc.
I think the first thing that needs to be done is to start punishing more common dangers like talking on cell phones and shit like that.

The punishment is not even close to the crime. Hell, most DUI drivers don't get that stiff of a penalty after killing someone.

So they want to do this for people they can't catch anyways? HTF are they going to take their licence away and put them in jail if they can't even find them now? Seems like a waist of time to me.

not all Cubans make great politicians....
*State representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera is the one responsible for this mindless solution*
"This guy did a wheelie," Lopez-Cantera said of one motorcyclist. "It's unbelievable.....
*its exactly this type of mindset that we do not need*
These motorcycles passed us like we were standing still." Lopez-Cantera said he witnessed racers speeding at up to 120mph on the Dolphin Expressway.
"They're just blatantly riding in excessive speeds, putting themselves and other motorists in danger," Lopez-Cantera said. "It's just too much."
*Is it Carlos? GO BACK TO CUBA! They dont have sport bikes..... Carlos, you could help your nephew rebuild the carburator on that 54' Chysler Imperial... you know, the one with the wooden wagon wheel rims, then Jorge' the mule won't have to drag that 5000lb rig all over havana anymore*
True to his word, Lopez-Cantera filed a bill in Tallahassee after the ride-along that would toughen penalties on speeding, stunt driving and hiding or flipping number plates.
"They'll lose their bike," Lopez-Cantera said. "Their motorcycle license will be revoked for 10 years, and it's a mandatory arrest so they will go to jail."
*aaaaghhhh I see. Problem solved.... lock those criminal riders up, where they belong with the murderers and other ex politicians*

Glad I don't do wheelies anymore and glad I don't live in Florida any longer either... Jacksonville is known for having 7 bridges.... I was known on those bridges ;)
I was able to just plead no contest to all my wheelie tickets back then, but had to pay a huge amount for insurance once I got my license back. Had to give up riding for a couple years, wasn't worth it in the end.

A. To learn a sit-down wheelie, 1st gear, down the block.... +- 1 day
(about average most of these fuck heads can do)
A.1 to learn a standup... another day or two...
to start balancing it... another week.... and a totaled bike.
all the rest can be learned in almost one summer with enough passion for showing off infront of the posers... (read below)
---------
stuntas = parking lot thugs, like that idiot on speedTV... and yes, the show looks like a mug shot board at a local pig station. http://www.wera.com/graphics/smilies/crackup.gif
frontas = douche bags attempting their first stoppie
pposas = standing around admiring all the RnD money going to shit
------
B... To get good enough to even think about getting your knee down... +- several seasons of rrrriding... canyons... then do a track day or two... mmmaybe get your knee down... and get blown the hell away by everyone else.
my god i love trolling http://forums.13x.com/images/smilies/smile.gif j/k fellas

If anything I would almost say this law is more appropriate for canyon runners than guys doing wheelies. Running around blind corners at 3x the speed limit is MUCH more dangerous than riding on one wheel in a straight line.
Wheelies are not a easy as you make it seem either, nor is getting a knee down. Hell I can drag my knee all over my culdesac at 15mph.
I did happen to catch an episode of superbikes where they let road racers play on the stuntbikes. Very few of them could even do a wheelie. So where is this mad skill they have from draggin knees? (they crashed a lot)

I would not disagree with you that anyone that can "only" wheelie is a tool. But lumping "anyone" that does wheelie into that group is just not right.
I've been riding a LONG time and enjoy the occasional wheelie. I don't go showboating down main street! But I do enjoy playing a bit when NO ONE is watching.

I honestly can't remember the last time I did a lagitimate wheelie.
Probably at least 15 years ago and on a dirtbike.
If I had a bike with a roll cage and such it might be fun to mess around and try to learn some tricks.
Just too expensive to play asphalt commando on my road bikes.

Both groups have a few people that will put out a bad name for others. But of course theres also the few that try to be a bit more respectable towards the public.
For the stunt minded people, there are those that don't feel like they are putting others at risk when they are (I was guilty of this before as well).... And then there are those that are more intersted in turning. But pushing and showboating up in the mountains, curvy on/off ramps, etc while still putting others at risk.
Unfortunately most of the general public will only see and remember the 1 bad one, not the remaining 10 that tried to do the right thing.

I think clusterfuck has a bad case of the jealousy. I'll bet he can't get it up.
Sure a wheelie is easy, and you can learn to do it in one afternoon, but how good of a wheelie? I can go to a track and in an afternoon I can figure out how to get around it and drag a knee without falling down. That doesn't mean I have it mastered.
I ride wheelies all day long but I am constantly learning things about riding them, and getting better with each one. If they were easy they would get boring and no one would do them. I know (3) MRA #1 plate holders that I see ride wheelies all the time, you think they are frontas?

How do you figure in the 1:40's? You were at the last two track days I did. And I distinctly remember your GSX-R600(Black/Silver). Only reason I remember you, is you are tall and I'd seen you on several mountain rides as well. But if you were running in the 1:40's then my buddy Eli and I were in the high 1:30's. Because there were several occasions during "street sessions" where we lapped you not once, but many times. Funny thing is, he and I timed ourselves and our fastest was 1:44's on basically stock GSX-R1000's(save for a few bolt-ons).
Like I say, main reason I remembered you, was the fact I'd seen you on several canyon rides and the way you rode at the track. For some reason I could tell you got very irritated when people stacked up behind you and wanted to pass, yet you'd get real fat in corners and take up passing lines. I remember us bearing down on you in coming out of #9 and into #10. Eli and I split you right as we got onto the straight. My man if you were running in the 1:40's, then I'm Moses.
And if stunters suck? Then you've gone turncoat, because I remember all the guys you road with and most of them did tons of stunts. How do I know, well I was there on those rides.

I'm not denying that you got fast. I'm saying that when I was there, you weren't fast. I know you really worked with Gene. No discredit there. But you said last time you were out at PMI was around 2 years ago. Well that would have put you right about when I was there.
And based on when I was there, you weren't in the 1:40's. Are you now? Sure, if you're racing I'm sure you've gotten faster. But 2 years ago you weren't. Unless you were having a total "OFF" day.
And no you wouldn't remember myself or Eli at those track days in 2006. We didn't introduce ourselves. Fact is, we ususally keep to ourselves in a small group of riders we know. But I remember alot, and I've seen many of the people on this board at track days.

I'm not flaming you. Just calling some corrections. Mainly with the stunter blasts. Because I remember that you were buddies with alot of guys I did rides with and most of them did tons of stunts. So I was kind of wondering why you hate stunts and stunters, when all of the guys you got along with were really into it. That was the main reason for doing mountain rides back then. To go and rip, in the canyons and then get up in the mountains and alot of the guys just messed around doing wheelies and other stuff.
