I bet Kanye is wishing he'd held out another week or so...

Sad news though - definately an icon.

And forever silenced the sound of two enormous brass balls clanking together with every step.

RIP to a legend.

Evel was the man!!! I'm surprised I survived growing up when he was in his prime and we were trying to imitate him. One of the most bad ass mofos to ever grace this planet.

yeah, there used to be evel knievel gear, action figures, etc

I remember watching one of the TV movies on him, County Sheriff Giving him shit, talking smack, calling him "Awful Knawful"... we were like grrrr get em Knievel!.....

he wore his Elvis Lookalike gear,

I think Elvis was a big Fan of his too,

the 70s were great,

food was a much better quality back then....

you would have to travel to europe to taste the food, like Italy, to understand the huge disparity in quality of food that we have in this country now

due to commerical farming and high production, quality diminishes when it comes to food.

as an example those that grow garden tomatoes or fruit or other veggies, you know what I am talking about...

there were a lot of things you didn't have back then that you have now....

my recall is so good it scares me... as young as I was back then...

gawd, I'd hate to be a born in the 50's geezer

One of my fav Evel quotes:

"If I had the suspension and motors these new bike have, I would have jumped over the moon."

Those flaming jumps warranted my dad to put a lock on the fuel tank for the tractors. It just made me learn how to siphon gas. How my buddies and I survived those jumps I'll never know.

RIP Evel!

Nice Alzheimer's trip:drink:
Well put, I was thinking the same thing!

Ignore this if you are an admirer:

You were warned.....

I met Evil 2 timesin the past 13 years. BOTH times he was a drunk, angry, pitiful human. HORRIBLE actually. I am sad that my hero from the 70's died. I am more sad that he turned out to be a spiteful, bitter old man that tried his ass off to cheat his fans and his family.

Rest in Piece and Rot in Hell, Evil.

Put me on ignore if you want. You can't make me say anything good about Evil. Except....I think it is good he is finally resting.

haha He left a harsh memory for me. I was a HUGE fan of his my entire life. until I met him in person. If it OK for you all to profess what you liked about him and what you will miss, then it is OK for me to voice my opinion too :)

I've heard from more than a couple people that he was an asshole, but I never had the chance to meet him and am still a big fan of how he captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans. Ran across this article a day or so ago about how his entire estate may be lost......

He never payed for beating a guy with a baseball bat. Now that he is gone, he is going to pay.

I read that elsewhere.

I never met him either, but I am prepared to cut him some slack. He was a showman first and foremost and hence was always a little PT Barnum. The guy lived the majority of his life is constant pain and certainly wa smedicated most of it as well, so he may have very well been a jerk.

Thats kind of the problem with looking up to these kinds of peaple. I really used to admire carrol Shelby until he pulled the stunt with the New "Old" Cobras a he "found." Then there's the Carrol Shelby Heart charity debacle as well.

Not to say that this applies across the board. I got to meet Paul Newman several times when I was a kid. He raced for Nissan and was alsways at the runoffs in Road Atlanta. He was gracious and apprciative of all of his fans there. In fact, he was a pretty regular dude.

Folks say the same thing about Babe Ruth, boozer and womanizer as well as a jerk, but given the time he lived thats just the way you acted. As time passes, we keep the part of the legend we want, and let the oter parts kind of slip. I dunno if thats right or wrong, but it's who we are as Americans.

So with someone like Evel, I take from him what I need, the mystic and legend and just accept the bad parts as part of the package. I can undertsand someone who met him being very disapionted, and it's justified. But I still gotta look up to the guy becuase he did what no one else did at a time we kinda needed some American style daredeveils.

As for the estate, yeah, there is really no excuse for not paying. Dude has been waiting for his money for a long time. I'm not sure I would have been as patient after attempted murder, but you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Captain Lance Murdock would have done the same thing!!!!!

The advancements he contributed to trauma medicine should have earned this man a noble prize in medicine.

RIP

Oh and I still have my little spin up Evil Knievel motorcyle that could jump anything...
