(Changing title to Winter Home improvements)

Been remodeling/updating the house a bit with my vacation time off....... Anyway, time for some modern goodies to spruce up the place... Ive been to a few places that carry limited amounts of modern "contemporary" type styles up north, but I need to find just the right stuff...... Anyone got some great places that wont rape me, you could share?

Names, cities they are in, or web sites would be great.... Im looking to buy locally if possible for shipping furniture is outrageous....

Thanks for any tips shared

Dion

The usual Scandanavian Designs, AFW, KC Fine, etc have all been examined... What else ya got for me???

Broadway between Evans and 6th Avenue.

There are tons of little boutique furniture stores. Some antique, some asian, there's also modern styled stores as well. I'll try to dig up a name or two, but take an afternoon and cruise down Broadway... You'll find some of the coolest and also some of the worst furniture you've ever seen.

furniture room was a cool store and not too expensive but the two that I knew about are both closed. There was one on I25 and SantaFe and one on County line and University.

Yes, there are a ton of antique dealers, but right around Alameda, there are quite a few modern furniture stores.

I've never seen this alleged IKEA. Anyone else have info on this? I'd love it to be so....but I'm not conviced, however. There's been talk for years, but a CO store is not listed on their site, nor is one listed in the "coming soon" category.

Who's actually shopped there then? Give us an address....better yet, an address and a pic of the storefront, and then I'll get excited.

www.CB2.com (http://www.CB2.com) is Crate and Barrel's modern arm of the company, you might try there as well.

I have yet to find a reasonable contemporary store locally either. I'm starting to think they simply don't go together. I have been to the Arhaus in CC, they have some decent stuff.

I've also been meaning to stop by the Zeitgeist (sp?) on Speer, but they always seem to be closed when I'm driving by....based on some of the designers they have in there, I'd be surprised if they fall into the reasonable category though.

There's no IKEA down here. I wish. It's a great store if you like more modern stuff. They were going to build one locally but the city of Lone Tree rejected the IKEA store colors because they don't meet the "earth tone" guidelines.

Jake Jabs has tried for years to keep IKEA out of this area, and has so far succeeded in that.

Strangely enough AFW had 1 some what contemporary, non grandma looking, traditional set.... plus we got all of it for less than the table alone at the Scandanavian Design... :hump:

Seriously... DIY and HGTV has been a super big help... We have spent very little and changed quite a bit... Im pretty sure, Ive watched nothing else in the last month... haha Plus Im willing to do it all myself which saves tons.... I just finished refinishing all the kitchen cabinets this weekend.. pics soon: Total cost: 18 bucks (assuming you already have a palm sander) If not add 35 bucks... Time to complete including dry time (2.5 days) Best thing you can do in a kitchen to increase the look and value, and spend next to nothing...
Added hardware was $30 bucks more ....

Projects still on my list are

Hard wood floor in dinning room
Build and Island in kitchen
New Granite countertops
Install fireplace in dinning room
Ceramic tile the bathroom
New vanity, sink and counter top, lighting in bathroom
Grit paint garage Floor

Then comes the outside.................hmmmm

I'd like to upgrade to a flatscreen.. but I really don't watch a lot of TV so trying to justify spending $$ on something that will collect dust.. ehh..

I'm not a big fan of my carpet right now.. but I have tile in the kitchen and entry way.. putting in hard wood may look weird ... hmm.. I need a gay man to come over and remodel & redecorate for me ! :slappers:.. (j/k my gay friends) !

... no, sorry.. wasn't implying you were gay.. :gay:... But I'm sure you have a certain female eye helping you out.. ;) Your upgrades look fantastic though !!

I did upgrade about a year ago and put in 2 brushed nickel light fixtures. I think they look nice. I also put in brushed nickel hardware on my cabinets, but they are the same color as yours before the stain, but look nice as well. I'd like to get the stainless steel appliances, but the white works for now. ... in time.. in time...:)

For sure... No reason to change appliances that work.... We had a fridge melt down and since we had to replace it, decided, we'd just craigslist the rest of the white appliances and get new.... Same on the sink... we had a white one and found a small leak in the faucet... so since we had to replace the faucet, and sinks are pretty cheep.. mise well do it all right? :)

Yes Jen has been very acvtive in helping in the changes as well.. Luckily we have very similar tastes so we have agreed on most of the changes thus far.... She even was all for the "Man Cave" (Media room) Though Im not supposed to call it that...
