Summary:
This position is the second level in the Software Development Career Path. Incumbents in this position work as part of a project team to develop and deliver commercial software products for external use. Incumbent has thorough knowledge of one or more technologies such as Web Services, Java, . Net, Graphical User Interface, spatial technologies or database technologies. Incumbent has knowledge across a broad spectrum of programming languages and techniques and applies both existing and new technologies in developing solutions.
General Job Duties:
* Participate in the design, planning and development of solutions based on industry requirements.
* Participate as part of a project team to design, code, test and implement moderately complex programs to support the portfolio management process.
* Manage small to mid-level sized programs or portions of a program.
* Establishes testing procedures to ensure application is thoroughly tested throughout development and before release.
* Assist in establishing project budget and timelines; manage assigned component of project within budget and time constraints.
* Monitor and report to management on project status, identify issues that may impede attainment of goals, recommend and implement corrective measures.
* Provide technical direction and training to other Software Development personnel.
* Perform other duties as required.
Specific Job Duties:
* Performance tune and normalize PPDM 3. 7 SQL Server 2005 databases.
* Review the current database structure and make recommendations for bulk data loading, reporting and normal processing improvements.
* Create a set of metrics for measuring performance improvement.
* Work with the project technical lead and executive architect to determine the prioritization of enhancements.
* Perform research and make recommendations within the persistence architecture space. Drive implementation of recommendations.
* Participate in all phases of the systems lifecycle.
* Takes Conceptual Data Model from Enterprise Architect, produces Logical Data Model conforming to corporate standards.
* Provide mentoring to Development teams.
* Reports directly to senior management.
* Acts in a lead capacity on small to mid-sized projects, but has no direct supervisory responsibility.
* Interacts with other colleagues at all levels in the conduct of day-to-day activities.
Education/Experience Requirements:
* Bachelors in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience.
* 5+ years of experience in SQL Server development, logical modeling, database design, profiling, performance tuning and physical modeling (normalization etc). We are not looking for a Production DBA.
* Thorough understanding of SQL Server 2005.
* Must have extensive experience designing and managing extremely large models (both number of tables as well as data content); performance tuning and normalization.
* Prefer experience with metadata documentation and design.
* Will most likely have experience with toolsets such as: Embarcadero, ErWin, Rational and most of their experience will be in modeling systems.
* Experience in oil & gas and specifically PPDM 3. 7 is a huge plus.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills - must be able to work effectively as part of a project/program team and foster team cooperation.
* Demonstrated project leadership experience including budgeting and managing timelines.
* Stays current with rapidly changing technology and applies it to business needs.
* Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
