If you can believe the 9 news forecast, It looks like it will be a chilly one up in Estes Today. I am going to wait a while before deciding which way to go.

Sunday, February 20

Morning (7:00am-Noon)

21 - 27
W 10-25 mph
A very windy and cloudy morning. We will see a few snow flurries. Temperatures will rise from 21 to 27 by late this morning. Winds will be 10 to 25 MPH from the west.

Afternoon (1:00pm-6:00pm)

21 - 27
W 5-15 mph
It will be a cloudy afternoon. Light snow is predicted. Expect additional accumulations of around one inch. Today's high of 27 will occur around 12:00pm as temperatures diminish to 21 by late afternoon. Winds will be 5 to 15 MPH from the west.

Ride Safe.

If you can believe the 9 news forecast, It looks like it will be a chilly one up in Estes Today. You can't. I like 9News, but their weather forecasts lately have been lousy. Nick says one thing in the morning and Kathy says something completely different at noon and 6pm -- repeatedly -- and their website is often not in sync with their broadcasts. 9News Broadcast (Sun AM): EP High 50-something. National Weather Service: 20% chance of snow showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain showers, high 41. Weather Underground: Mostly cloudy with isolated rain/snow showers, high upper 30s to upper 40s (now that's really narrowing it down  ). AccuWeather: Times of clouds and sun with a shower in parts of the area, high 50. Intellicast: Mix of clouds and sun, high 45. KEZZ (EP Radio): Periods of snow, high low 40sWith information like this (30 to 50+; sun to cloudy to rain to snow), who can say? I'm in. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll adjust ;)

Up 7 into EP, had lunch, then down 36 back home. Definitely had our moments of cold, slush, and lack of hot chocolate.

36 wasn't bad on the way back from Estes but hwy 7 has a few miles of road that has snow and slush covering it ... just have to pick your line very carefully ...

Other than that ... it wasn't too bad ...

Great Ride Everyone. This is such a super group of people.

We headed up Hwy. 7 and after much sand and a wee bit of nippy weather took a warm up stop. Yes That is Barn Believe it or not.

CBRChick even found a handy hand warmer.

Then we ran into some wet roads and snow. There were places we were riding thru the slush and fully snow packed roads. Everyone did great.

Finally Lunch in Estes and then back down Hwy 36 and home.

I guess if all else fails I will try the attachment route.

Again a Great run.

I see broken pictures....

Hey Marc, can you email me the high res versions of today's pics?

Lomax
Sun Feb 20th, 2005, 06:49 PM
HMMMM! I can see them. I hate posting pictures, they never come out right.

It would be easier for you to go here http://community.webshots.com/user/lomaxcm and look under "Rides and Misc" and down load them. My service is so slow it would take hours to E-mail them to you.

Cheers.
Marc.

Yeah, it was a little sunny, a little cloudy, a little rainy, a little snowy, sometimes warm, sometimes chilly, sometimes cold. Just like combining all the damn weather reports indicated! I guess they were all correct  Next time I'll weight the Lomax weather report a little more heavily

Hwy 7 pretty clean to the top, then P2P was a little messy as indicated above. Hwy 36 was pretty clean. The worst of it for me was on the way back between Boulder and Denver where I rode through a rain/sleet/snow shower / wind storm.

All told it was a decent ride and I had fun. It was a nice change from the usual ho-hum ride in the hills  Everyone did very well given the conditions. A big thank you to everyone for taking it easy and keeping two wheels under you throughout the trip!

You're welcome Christine...hope it helped keep you a little warmer!

Hopefully today's little adventure won't scare you southern folk away from joining us on another ride.

Nice to finally meet you David!

Nice pix Marc -- by the way, where's the one showing how NOT to warm your hands

Just curious as to why you idiots went north for a ride this early in the season, with these conditions. We had 5-6 guys out riding yesterday up through Morrison to Evergreen, Deer Creek, Turkey Creek, some other roads too. No rain or snow (especially not on the road :P )!!!

Cheers.

Cause sucessfully riding a sportbike in slushy'ass-gravel'filled-snow&ice'puddles makes you better at riding on good roads.

(aka, we don't have dirt bikes)

 Yeah Barn, that's what dirt bikes are for (much cheaper to crash, too :D ).

If you know the road, it's not much of an adventure now is it. haha We did hit some pretty sketchy gravel filled switchbacks, good for a nice pucker. :o I'll skip riding the streetbikes in snow though!!!

Looks like you guys had a pretty wild ride up there. I got caught in the same wind and snow on the way between golden and boulder.. the wind combined with the snow on highway 93 made for an interesting ride..
