Well, I have 5 rides on the new Ninja, 4 without a ticket. I got tagged going 72 in a 45 on the Peak to Peak. Since it was 27 over, I have to go directly to court. I have a clean driving record, had I should say. Has anyone gotten a ticket in Gilpin county and gone to court? What was the outcome. I know that my results may vary, but I am still curious.

Let me know, if you could.

thanks

There are a couple of folks around here some some extensive Gilpin County experience. Hang tight for a few days, I'm sure they'll fill you in.

Just some fair warning. They don't heed nicely to bikers in Gilpin County.

You may want to get a lawyer.

As long as your citation didn't involve 2 cops, gunpoint, handcuffs, the back of a cruiser, and 12 points, you'll be fine. The DA will offer you a plea right away.
... especially if you have a clean record.
... and you have a motorcycle endorsement.
... and mirrors on your bike.
... and proof of insureance.
... and registration.
... and you didn't pass on a double yellow.
... and you didn't run.

...so Ive heard

Funny you should mention......

The sheriff clocked me up by the Gilpin High School, right after the junction of GGCanyon rd. I didn't see him pull out and come after me. Very shortly after that came the twisties. The cop got dropped, unbeknownst to me. So, he thought I was running. When I got down to about 1/2 mile from Blackhawk, I sat up and he finally caught up with me. As soon as I saw him, I pulled over immediately. When I did, he jumped out of his truck, gun drawn, and orders me to put my hands out. Oh, great. So, I do, and he comes up and puts me in a wrist lock, yelling " Why'd you run" I tell him I didn't see him at all and as soon as he realized I wasn't running, all the other cop cars show up, b/c he had radio'd in that he was in hot pursuit. Ug. So, it did involve a gun, 5 cops and a 1 sided chase.

But I do have an M endorsement, mirrors, tags, insurance and all that.

So, I guess we shall see what happens.

That's awesome. I didn't have mirrors, so I had no idea he was back there. Same deal pretty much, but mine was a 90 in a 45. OOPS.

(Hey SpiderBob- I can't find my old thread on my ticket? Throw the link in here if you can dig it out of the archives.)

Well, i can tell the Barn story, since he and I got a ticket in Gilpin County last year. In a nutshell, our tickets weren't very severe, only an illegal passing in a double yellow. I didn't want to deal with it so I paid it. Barn went to court and got out of the ticket. It's not nearly as severe as 20+ speeding but I agree with the above, you might want to get a lawyer.

you guys could fix your little "couldn't see behind me" problem by going to wal mart and paying $2 for some small, round bubble mirrors. Then you can see fine and avoid the whole one-sided chase problem and the twised wrists at gunpoint and all the other coyboy cops.

...OR... I could sell my bike since I don't seem to learn my lessons too well.

Update-

Finally went to court today for my ticket. It went pretty good.

The charge was speeding 72 in a 45, 27 over. 6pts, and $400ish in fines. I got two offers - 1. 2pts, non moving violation but, I would have to go to driving school for aggressive drivers or 2. 3 pts and no school. $60 fine either way.

I took the 3pts and no hassle of driving school. I am pretty happy with that.

No atty, I am guessing it would have been a single 4pt offer.

So, if anyone needs an atty. Bastion Kane was mine. Straight up guy, just got his M license. 303-623-3894 is his number.

no, he has a flat 2 tier fee system, $300 if is doesn't go to trial, an additional $500 (i think) if it did go to trial.

To be honest, I was more worried about getting railroaded and I think that having an atty. helped prevent that.

Well I wish I ran across this email sooner... :o
In my experience with tickets I have spoken with the DA or officer and got the deal on my own on the trial date. If the DA or officer has something to prove to who knows than your up sh*t creek on leverage.

One ticket was by CSP, 6 pts in Adams Cnty. DA offered me 1 pt speeding and I countered his offer to 0 pts speeding. They never informed the DMV since there were no points, but the fine was $127. ;)

A separate ticket by DCSD, 6 pts in Douglas Cnty. Officer was reasonable to speak with and I showed proof of a 2-day Racing School I took through the SCCA a few weeks prior and was given Deferred Sentence for 3 months w/o driver school and $30 fine. :P

A separate ticket by DCSD, 4 pts in Douglas Cnty. Officer was not reasonable, pissed at the 'line of work' for the lack of sleep she got prior to coming in early just to fight tickets she wrote. She offered me 2 pts Def. Veh. or 1 year Deferred Sentence with driver school. I gladly took the 2 pts for the 1 year was a sh*tty deal in my case. Fine was $50

For the sake of time and insurance premiums. $300 is cheap compared to most fees I have been told about.
