This thread is about the tear down & rebuild of the motor from my 89 lx that I'm swapping into my '66 FORD FAIRLANE (http://stuntride.com/vbstunt/showthread.php?t=5638)
The donor is a 89 lx with 115k. I knew it would need some cleaning, refurbishing so I did a comp test a couple weeks ago and got great results in all 8 cyls (135psi+) and the AOD was rebuilt 3k ago so I decided just to freshen up the motor instead of a complete rebuild. I am also adding GT40p heads(explorer heads),explorer upper/lower intakes as well as a trick flow cam/springs.

craigslist has a lot of "Colorado curse"... people think their cars/trucks/bikes are worth more than other parts of the country???? I looked at the 89lx, guy was asking 1200, I paid 900 & drove it home from east Aurora(I am near Colfax/Colorado)and racked up a few miles dicking around here n there too!

Hold out for a bit. I'm sure you'll be able to yank one of these out of a wadded 2011

Nice. I'm doing the same with my Mustang 66 but I am going to go electric with a lot of the power hogs. I think an electric water pump, fuel pump and fan is going to be a good idea when I want to drop the hammer.
Didn't you have a 390 in there before? What happened with that?

Lol no doubt and it mounts the same as the 4.6, READ MY LIPS NO NEW MOUNTS!!! lol I wish, man have you read about the 2011 gt's? 6 speed over 400hp stock, but the downside is that you would need to redo the rods if you intend to put a super charger on it.

I picked up some labels for my drawers from pep boys they have magnets on them and they are chromed with flames. Its bitchen.
So you had all those engines in there. What happened to make you take them out? And what is the benifit of the 5.0 now? I think they rev higher which means higher top speed so that's good but what else?

I have A LOT of stuff crammed into that lil box set up!

The car came with the 390, it was quick but I wanted something nicer & fresher in there. I came across the 428 from a guy I was looking into having rebuild the 390. I could't pass it up. The car was a TORQUE MONSTER! but always smelled like gas and FE ford stuff is harder to come by and usually cOst more. Now I have a less powerful motor with tons more stuff available, fuel injection and overdrive!

It's gonna be shitty for a hand full of days so I wanted to get it as sealed up as poss. I yanked the pan back off & spent waaaaaay too long on the wire wheel stripping 3 coats of paint(incl an orange one????) to re-spray it black. Also buttoned up the dipstick & new oil pump/pick-up.

I'm impressed with your skill and dedication to your project. I can't seem to get my ass in gear to do my own. Maybe its doubt about my own skills but looking over your work inspires me to try.
What did you do with your old engine?

What did you do with your old engine?well ive been wrenching on cars & bikes since i was a teenager, heck we won a vette for our hs! I believe it takes a wee bit of motivation, tons of online research and a handfull of specialty books/ repair manuals! lol

You won't need them if your running stock. I have yet to see a really good plug lately. They look all solid but if you look under the porcelain there is a spring that burns out before the electrode. But I digress. At least they are cheap.

Look how tight the fit is on the driver side headers... I also had to "massage" the area just above the o2 bung on the driver side for trans linkage + I didnt have to find "p" headers to fit a Fairlane :)
