I checked out one of the places listed on the High Octane list (Duggans Petroleum) and i didn't see anything higher then 91. and they look like they have been closed for a while. all they really had was red/normal diesel and Kerosene. I'm looking to fill a couple of 5gal. cans. does anyone know of somewhere near DIA w/ 93+?

you're going to probably get a lot of tech response about this

basically telling you that high octane gas is a waste of money at altitude
they are right

around here a mid grade- or med. octane rating is fine

no need for high octane gas

just letting you know-- do a search for octane
there have been quite a few discussions about octane ratings and what they really mean. the discussions also go into great detail as to why you don't need high octane at altitude

:D

There are a couple places down south (littleton, green mountain, etc). and Bendimere Speedway sells it there as well...sorry, no idea on things up north.

Petro stop at Quincy & Parker Rd has 93oct as their high octane (about $2.30/gal). The gas station on the NE corner of I-25 & Belleview has Sunoco 100oct at about $5/gal.

There is debate on the benefits, probably depends alot on the bike and how much compression, ignition advance, etc you are running. I like the 100oct unleaded and the way it smells.

I actually though opposite about that.... I thought that you MIGHT need higher octane the higher you go, as for sea lvl... 89 = 91 = 95

My dad has some tech articles on the benefits (or lack of) with high octane....explains how it burns, etc. I can get ahold of them if you want me too...I think all are on paper though, so it is not quite as simple as posting the link.

this conversation always makes for a good argument. :argue:

 which is funny, considering that the question was "where can I go for it" not "is it worth a damn"

my dad will go round and round with about anybody on this one and oil, too...

he's got several friends who are chemical engineering types who work for oil co's (various ones) in the gulf and they all say that basically non-synth oil is non-synth oil and synth oil is synth oil. there's not a lot of difference unless you dont change it when you're 'sposed to. i stay outta this stuff though...

same with my g-pa. He used to be a chemical engineer/scientist. Pretty smart dude. He's the one that told me octanes octane, unless ur going up, higher in elevation, and it really doesn't matter till like over 4-5k. I will still run 91 in my bike, specially up here at 6200 :)

If you did a google search, it would lead you HERE!! (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/local/highoctane.html)

Try running both higher and lower octanes to see if you feel any difference. I couldn't tell any difference between 87 and 91 so I don't waste the extra money on 91. With the gas prices as high as they are I switched to 85 in both of our trucks and haven't noticed a diffference yet.

the only thing going with 85, u just need to listen for some knocking. Some cars tend to not like it as much, and start to knock. Just bump back up to 87 and it goes away.

This would include not pinging or knocking.

wow, thanks guys for all the info and locations. I was thinking w/ my compression of 11.5/1 i would need something that wouldn't pre-detonate as easily. But i got to lean alot too :D
