Hey there girls, I'm here to vent today. As you may remember from my first post, I have a 250 Ninja on order. Well recently I have decided I have to be responsible and used my bike money for a deposit on a new house and a washer and dryer  Yes, I know that's horrible, I feel terrible about it now. Anyway, give me some opinions ladies, should I wait and save and save and save and save...... or should I just buy a cheap used, ugly bike just to ride?

If it's a first bike i would get soemthing you wouldn't mind dropping, and i'm sure you could get financed if your getting a house. All in all it's whatever would make you happy.

I agree ~ It's all about what makes you happy. :) I think that once you buy a house (been there, done that) that you will need to continue to save/spend your money on your new home, ie. curtains, lawn, painting, decorating, blah, blah, blah.. unless you aren't buying BRAND new (since most of those items will probably already be there, hopefully in your taste of decor). If you really, truly enjoy riding, buy an inexpensive bike just to ride... but if you want to look GOOD and feel confident on what you're riding, then spend a little more and get what you want because you may just hate the "ugly" bike and never want to ride it anyway. I honestly don't think you would be happy buying an "ugly" bike just to ride.... but does a 250 really do it for you?

Thoughts from a dork.. :P

Go with your guts. My 1st bike was a 1991 FZR600 that I paid $2500 for straight cash outta the paper. It was kind of this canary yellow and not a looker by any means but it didn't matter, I just wanted to be riding. Also, I wanted a bike that in the case I ended up dropping it, I owned it not the bank and I wouldn't be completely heartbroken that my paint/fairings got wrecked.

thanks for all the opinions, unfortunately I'm still really undecided. My husband does tell me to just wait, he says we will have my bike by springs, which may not be so bad since the weather will prob suck soon anyway. And as far as the 250, I think it will be a good started bike for me. Number one I'm waaaaaaaay too short for anything else, I can barely touch the ground on that one, and I learned on a 250 and frankly I honestly don't think I could handle much more than that to start. Kinda sad, but at least I can admit it lol. Well thanks for all the opinions, I think I might just try to wait it out though, I might just have to rent a bike a time or two before the good riding weather ends though.

Kawigirl,

I don't mean to butt-in on a girls-only discussion, but I have some thoughts which might help...

You can save a fair amount of money on a used 250, and they aren't necessarily ugly. MSRP on a new one is $3000, but you should be able to find one under $2000 in good condition. Kawasaki 250's have a great resale value - higher than what blue book says because they're always in demand. Sooo, I would say find a nice used one for now, and if you still want a new one, you should be able to sell it for about the same price next year. Plus, if you sell in the spring/early-summer, you can probably get more for it. ;)

Hope this helps. :D

Hey Kawigirl- Since you're just waiting now anyhow... Have ya thought at all about getting a little dirt riding practice in while you wait for the street bike? Being really short myself, I've found dirt experience really helpful on the street. I'm more comfortable on a little taller street bike now since I got used to taller dirt bikes. Just a thought. I have an extra dirt bike any time you'd like to try it out. -CJ

Thanks CJ, I have thought about dirt bike riding and think it would be fun, not to mention the practice. :)

Go with what you can afford and what is right for you. Though I love riding with all my heart, it is all I can do to hold onto my bike now that I am married with kids (the bike thing started in my younger days). There is no way I would be able to afford a new bike now in my life, nor would it be a priority. Again, riding is wonderful, but don't screw your credit or get in over your head with it. Better to ride out the time and do things when it is right.
