Anyone know of "someone who knows someone who knows someone with a sniffer"? I gotta figure out how to smog this 80 blazer so I can get the collector plates and well.... it's missing like 95% of all the oem emissions stuff. You have to smog it everytime the title changes, and I gotta get this title changed into my name. PM thanks yall

Move to Teller County = no emissions.
Good luck otherwise.

If have a very good contact in the Denver emissions area (well, state of colorado) who could help ya to get it running right, but aside from that, it is the luck of the draw. However, the people at the emissions stations are not well trained and aside from checking the gas cap to see if it holds pressure, 90% of them wouldn't know an air pump if it smacked them in the face (my dad had a euro M5 missing 90% of the stuff and worked for the state and used it to check on some of the stations and they STILL never caught on).
That, and based on newer emissions laws, missing bits of equipment or having a hard coded check engine light on will not fail a vechile.

Wait till after the Legislation session. They are talking about repealing the Clean Air Act.

or you could drive by a bunch of the emissions checkers on the entrances to highways and if they determine your vehicle is bad they will send you a letter in the mail stating they will fix it at their cost and even give you a rental vehicle, it was in the paper a week or so ago.

I mean , there has to be an easier way somehow..... What about all these muscle car owners from the 60's-70's+ and such?

Last I heard El Paso county is getting rid of emissions testing for vehicles. This was supposed to take effect in the beginning of 2006. Then I've heard mid part of 2006. Now I've heard possibly early 2007. You might want to check it out. I know emissions stations are in a uproar because of the amount of money they will lose. However as far as I know it got passed, so all we are waiting for is when they will go ahead and o.k. it, so we won't have to emission anymore. Or at least for the next 10 years.

Might want to check into it...

Well, those muscle cars are a lil more deserving of the collectors plates (sorry, an 80 blazer isn't a collectors vehicle) and all those muscle cars had to pass an emissions test at one point to get those plates in the first place.
As I said, if it is just missing equipment, highly unlikely that will cause your car to fail. However, if it is putting out too much emissions, you should fix that anyways (you car will run better and longer if you do).

Emissions is supposed to be phased out, Dec 31, 2006.

yeah, I know it's not a REAL collector car but it's serving no purposed parked in the parking lot at my hill top apartment. I mean it sucks that it snows and I STILL can't make it up my own damn hill in my 2wd truck and taking the 1/2 hour to jack up the truck stuck sideways in the street to throw chains on.

And by mentioning those other 60-70's muscle cars, even they have to be smogged once for every title change. Or from what I read on air standards website for colorado.

You should be able to drape chains over the tire and hook together at the bottom.

Then drive a few feet and retighten. You shouldn't have to jack up the truck. Hope this helps! :guns:

well NORMALLY I would just lay them out infront or behind the tires but by the time I usually NEED them, I'm pretty SOL. Like two days or 3 days ago when I was sideways in the street nosing in the middle of the road that has a BIG hump in the middle. Both rear tires against the curb. So no forward or rearward motion. Just sitting in the groove and spinning. So yeah. Have to jack the tires up. One at a time. with close to a foot of snow on the ground. Sitting un a road that humps up in the middle and uphill at the same time.

That sounds like a good idea now that I think of it. Actually GREAT idea. However, I'm running tires about 2-3 inches bigger in diameter. So when I tighten them up, I have maybe 1-2 inches of slack even when tightened up. Wouldn't be able to even get them to clip together if I draped them over the wheels.

I had my emissions check on my truck today at Jiffy Lube( Colorado Springs). They told me they will stop doing emission tests Jan1 2007.

I asked them if it was going to cut into profits or if they would lose money on the test equipment. They said the state owns the equipment and they didn't make that much money on the tests anyway. My test was 25 bucks. It passed as I expected since it is an 17 years old and only has 137,000 miles on it.

David, try to lower the pressure in your rear tires. that will give you a lot more traction.. if that does not work.. let me know I got my Tacoma now and will tow you up the hill.. :-)

Hey KooLaid  (I couldn't resist). I have a 79 Trans Am I bought last year and had to have emissioned. It has no cats and no emission anything on it. I took it to a place and he checked it. It was failing, but he let me tweak the carb while it was hooked up and I got it to pass. Now I have collector plates and never have to emission test it again. If you are still looking for a place pm me and I will let you know where I went.

So you got it aye frank??? Well I'm hoping to get my new sports car this spring. February 3rd, I will officially be debt FREE. Paid off about half of my 8-9k in debt iin October-November. And gonna pay this last half off in a week. So I surpassed my goal of debt free in 6 months to a max of late spring by doing it in around 4 months. Soooooo soon you'll hear spinning rear tires and the sounds of a siren behind it as i get pulled over in my euro 300+ hp car or 400+ hp domestic car...stock

As for emissions, I think I found a guy on one of the military 4x4 boards who'll help me tweak it to make it pass at the shop he works at. Hopefully it'll work. HOWEVER, now my th350 tranny is a POS all of a sudde and I need to find a new one....wtf!

Let me know if you need tranny help (Richard does that sort of thing).

Also, while my "contact" with the state can not issue an emissions sticker, he does have the ability to run it on the machine, and also a chassis dynomometer. Part of his "job duty" is to make a pass with a vehicle, and assist the owner of the vehicle with what needs to be done or fixed in order to make it pass. If you want to, just call him and tell him you know me, he will run your car and look it over free of charge (this becomes an advantage because if you fail at a station you only have 10 days to fix and retest, with him, you can test and take as long as you need to fix before paying your $15 at a station).
His name is Vic, he works off of 6th Ave and I-25 here in Denver and works like tues-Friday most weeks. He can be reached at 303-744-1303 if needed.

O.k. cool then. Its for sure, Jan. 1 2007. Like I say that's what I've been hearing. Back in late of 2004 when the talk of this started, it was speculated that Jan. of 06 was going to be when it would happen. Then things got pushed back. So Jan. of 07 sounds right.

A few guys I've talked too, said that they would take a hit in money, but you're right about the equipment being state owned. One of my friends used to work at a Jiffy Lube a few years back. He said they did do alot of emissions testing though.

I know I'll have to get one more test done on my old '70 F250. It passed easy last time, course that old they really don't test much. Just idle speed and 2500rpm. I thought about getting the collector plates, but decided not to. I don't think it will matter after 2007. Though I have heard that this will run for 10 years, then there will be a re-evaluation of the effects of doing away with the emissions testing. If its good then they will leave it as is. If its bad, we'll revert back to emissions testing. The theory is though, more new cars are entering the mainstream and older ones are slowly dying out.

Also anyone heard of this new thing the US Gov. is doing with Salvage and Junk Yards?? My dad heard from some guys at his work that the government is in the process of shutting down junkyards. They are making people who have them, get rid of all the cars on their properties. Making people take them to be crushed. Obviously the government is paying owners to do this. Its really going to hurt the spare parts industry, since older cars will find it harder to get used parts. I guess some guy out east of town had some 800 cars on his property. He's already done a deal with the government to get rid of the cars and have them crushed. He can still sell parts off of them until they go to the crusher. I know he can't sell the actual cars though, just parts off of them, till crush time.

This is just hear say right now, just curious to see if anyone else has heard of this scenerio going on? If true you can tell a definete joining of the US Government, EPA, and Car manufactures. This would benefit the manufactures the most, as it would indirectly force people to start buying new or newer cars, eventually weeding out the old ones to be crushed and taken off the road..
