My wife and I are pretty new here too and are looking forward to meeting up with some folks. I believe there's a group that meets at the Shell station on Academy near I-25 pretty regularly. We plan on starting up some sort of bike night once the weather gets better!

yeah, especially during summer there are some huge gatherings there. I had been advised to stay away from there, and also the sonic on south academy. I might stop by that shell next time I see a group there. yeah I thought it would be nice to have weekly/biweekly or something meets. sonic is always nice or they just opened up a waffle house (24/7) on austin bluffs. either way Im out riding unless the ground is froze over, lol. hope to see you around!

id stay away from the shell unless you want to get branded an asshole to everyone that drives by and works there. the sonic isnt as bad as you get some more "real" riders and not so many squids and idiots.

you know i've seen just as many of #$%@^ at the sonic as up north...

i met ALL of my friends at either down town or up north.... yes it does have its jack offs.... but any group or any meeting point will will bring in these #$%@^... they just want to make friends that are into the same things as they are.. maybe get a girl or 2... watch a fight every now and then... and cars take out power boxes.. good times have been had up north...

as for downtown it is fun to go out friday and saturday night and watch the drunks stumble out of the clubs... more good times to be had.. hey old man remember the girl on the handle bars of the bike :spit: .... ...

see you guys see these people out hanging out and they are not being what you consider sport bike riders... really whats going on is that these guys are bored and having fun... for very cheep...

Ouch - that hurts.

Let me speak on behaf of the lower class shell people.

Daytime - you get two groups at the shell - those who want to ride a good long ride and usually meet mid A.M.
Then thru out the day those who do short around town or quicker rides.
For people like myself who have important things like my son and family things to attend to and can not kill an entire day like the "real riders", the idea of being able to stop by shell and find a few people looking to ride an hour or two is nice.
Now you will also come across the stunters that meet up there during the day but unless they know you they will prob. not invite you to ride with them as there are too many big mouths these days and they just want to be left to do their thing.

Night time - This is a whole different world.
Do not come to the Shell at night expecting to really ride. It is a hang out spot, a social gathering if you will.
While you must put up with the squids that feel thy have to prove themselves (they don't) the overall group is very social and likeable.
We usually hang out for a while then ride downtown. Hang downtown for a while then back up to shell, etc...
Im not going to sugar cote it - you may get booted out by the management of the Shell or CSPD from time to time. This is caused more by the "tuner" crowd, but when thy say time to go it means everyone.
Truly if you just respect the place and keep the squids in check we have never had any real problems. As of last year the cops downtown left us alone 99% of the time and a lot of good fun was had.
Like I said - nite time is a whole different world - and its not for those who are wanting to get some ride time in. It is more of a place to hang out and be social. To me is better than sitting at home in front of the TV after my son goes to sleep.

So are there people there EVERY night (weather permitting)? That would be cool -- the wife and I are always looking for an excuse to get out on the bikes and socialize.

Where do you guys hang out downtown?

As for getting together, I'll be posting up shortly about a Daytona races get-together. You're all welcome to come!

During the summer - the weeknight croud is thin but usuly a few 5-10 any given night. I usuly do not go during the week. On the weekends its nothing to have 25 - 50+ bikes up there at any given time.
As for downtown - there is a "bike parking" spot across from Rum Bay nightclub. I would decribe it as the heart of nightlife in downtown C/S due to the amount of clubs with in walking distance. You will see it all - kind of like the zoo.
Dont forget some change as we have 1-2 bums we put thru college I think, but they are good people - just a little down on luck. All part of the downtown scene.
We usuly have more bikes than the parking will hold so we just take over parking places as we can or fit bikes wherever they will fit.

The Colorado Ruff Ryders will be out in full force all over the state this Spring and Summer. Look for the big R on our backs, both in the twisties and on the boulevard...

---Well no one knows my constant complaint about the fact that riding is the least of what we do on weekend nights than iam4u2nv.

But all you have to do is don some gear and fire up a bike and people will ask you where you're going. Most of the time at least a few folks will join you for a ride. It's not like it was a few years back when we had large groups doing runs thru Ute Pass and Garden of the Gods in the dark. Alot of the people that ride serious miles quit hanging around Shell though. Too much attention and not enough riding.

I have just geared up and rolled out of Shell in disgust several times. Don't be afraid to just roll. All you have to do is cruise downtown after and you'll find the group there.

But the 'Drunk Parade' on Tejon street at about 2am is not to be missed. It's better than TV. And a crowd of wise ass bikers making fun of it all just adds to the fun.

The number of "Free The Twins" donations has been down in past years. Still a few last year but I point the sharp decline to some of our fallen/MIA elders. Mike, GSXR Dave, and a few of the others always had a way of getting people to open up.
We will see what this year brings but I have a great cell phone camea now so I will seed all I can. I am also planing on getting a helmet cam so I may be able to get some drive by flashing on tape.

--what? You mean my approach of simply yelling "hey you with the tits, let's see them puppies!!!!", isn't an effective approach?

maybe get a girl or 2... watch a fight every now and then... and cars take out power boxes.. good times have been had up north......

Now I know why my life feels somehow incomplete.... I've never been to either of these meeting places.

How DO I get by?

Some people like to do it with other people - some like to do it with themselves - to each their own there solo master.
To be honest at 48 years old you might stand out a bit - like someone bringing their dad to the prom.
So it's o.k., don't feel that you have missed out - I'm sure you did plenty of fun stuff with your friends, down at old man Johnsons Malt Shop, in front of the old five and dime, the school sock hop, or at the drive in watching a swell movie with your best girl.
(I would like to thank Nick at Night/TV Land for providing me with these dated references)

RAG -
I'm not wanting to turn this into another shitty SoCo thread so I will just leave ya with this -
You chose to dog on us for what we like to do.
I pointed out a 48 yr old, duel sport rider, sporting a hippy like pony tail, may not be the best judge of modern youth's choices of fun.
Our hanging out at a gas station is not effecting you in any way so keep your negetive comments to yourself, and everyone is happy.

I still say we ought to pick a new hang out spot. Thought we all agreed to move last year. Just lazy I guess cause we never picked a new spot.

I'm still in favor of moving to Powers. It has closer access to the places out east we like to screw around at and maybe the ricer crowd will keep their JR High asses at Shell.

But then again, that'd eliminate alot of the jail bait that serves as eye candy for us............life is full of trade offs
