UPDATE!
ANY SOUTHSIDER'S GOING POST UP!!! It just dawned on us that the R1 is at my sister's so we're going to have to go get it in the morning.
[strike:2b75a4ef13]Alex, Cat, Sully and any other's if you want we can meet at the King Soopers on Parker and 225 instead of Fay Meyer's, head down to my sister's to get alan's bike, then go from there to the Shell to meet other's.[/strike:2b75a4ef13]
FOR MEL, JUST GO TO THE SHELL GAS STATION AND BE THERE AT 1030, IF I'M LATE, IT'S BECAUSE I'M ALWAYS LATE AND THAT'S JUST HOW I AM SO JUST RUB YOUR BALLS AND HANG TIGHT!!!
So if you have any ideas of WHERE TO RIDE TO...post up or just keep in mind and let us know at the shell station. And for those who dont know where the shell or fay myers is, POST UP OR PM ME!
For anyone that is checking this, if you decide to go or not go please text me at 720.290.2800 or call. if you get my v/m, DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE, i do not check my v/m's right away, so text me or call back.

Tue Apr 4th, 2006, 03:41 PM
I think there is a "fast" group that meets at the Morrison Conoco. Lets decide where we wanna go and then proceed from there.
The ride we did 1/2 of last Saturday was nice and clear road wise, and the turns are more sweeping (no hairpins)...I know it was hwy 36, and something about a 7, but aside from that I don't really know. But we could take that towards Estes...do some lunch, and head homeward. It is a good route for n00bs to go on.
BTW, just so that I can live up to my nickname (Beotch), I am stating here for everyone to know before they show up: Once again, there are newer riders, girls, and people who would like to go home to their families after riding. So there will be no hauling ass, no "buzzing" people in turns, and no passing across a double yellow. And those rules are just for starters...if you feel the need to show off frequently, feel free not to ride with us.
Suki
Tue Apr 4th, 2006, 03:44 PM

Is it true SC is thinking of heading north on peak to peak? How do you get to this Conoco on Morrison? I'll ride down and then ride back up to the bike tech thing. How fast is the fast group? I don't have any problem passing on yellow. Don't know if I'm fast, but I've beat a few. :)
Beotch
Wed Apr 5th, 2006, 03:08 PM
 ok, I think you misread....this is going to be a relatively leisurely ride as there are several girls and n00bs, and there will be NO passing on the double yellow (or otherwise unsafe passing).
As for peak to peak, I don't know where the other groups are going, but I think that Peak to Peak is fairly gravel coated and would not be the route that this particular group will be taking.
There is a group that usually meets at the Conoco on the north west side of C-470 at Morrison road (at the entrance to Bandimere Speedway)

Mel, if you guys are going to head up to Hwy7 and possibly ride to Estes, the best way for you to come would be across 93 from Golden and then north out of Boulder on 36 til you get to Lyons ;)
Last road report I got was the P2P was still pretty nasty with sand/gravel in the middle of corners
Mecha, I wouldn't ride with Mel and her group if you're going to "think" about running from the cops like you did last weekend or plan on riding like an ass (passing in the corners, etc.)

Well, we can keep Deckers open as a possibility, but it was requested, since a few newer riders are along, that we not do anything too technical.
I suppose that anyone who wants to go and may not be otherwise in contact with anyone else on the ride can hit up my cell the morning of (but NOT early). If you want the numba, PM me.

No worries! Let's ride bro! I'm a puppy dog on the street. Say what you will. I have video from that day to prove it. That said, it is a sport bike; not a vespa. I crave apex speed, hate DR turns, and don't pass in corners. I'm waiting to go banzai on the track. The sooner the better. As for running, I try to keep both eyes open so that's as little a concern as possible. As for last weekend - the trooper was coming down a slight incline 3/4 of a mile or more away moving in my direction. I was behind a Yukon just after a 90. I never saw him until he passed the GMC and pointed at me before flipping a u almost in front of VWguy. Somehow, although I was only about 150 yards behind the GMC, he clocked me accelerating out of the corner. I probably did. He was a newbie who figured he needed to make a point. If I had been on a cruiser he wouldn't have looked twice. He was cool at the end and offered to clock my bike with his gun as I'm not totally sure how far off my speedo is.

You know Rian, I am afraid your OGK will not be sufficient at the Shell...you are going to have to get yourself an Arai or an Icon. Once you comply with the proper brand labeling, you will be allowed to play.
And Suki, I prefer to play with myself more than others...so I will just stay in the corner with myself.

I think though, after saturday's ride that it might be a good idea that if you are a new rider to let people know. for the most part we all have an idea of eachother's riding level, i had no idea the guy that went down was a new rider, i just thought he had just bought a new bike, nothing newb about that.
Letting other's in your ride group know your experience level can help you and the other's to have a more fun and safe ride.
I did talk to him later that day and he said he was doing okay, had a bad headache for most of the day, which i guess can be expected after his head hit my front tire, then my lower fairing (busting it) and then hitting my rear brake pedal and bending it all the way past the foot rest, i'd say a headache is to be expected.
So, with that said.... i'm not selling the fizzer now, gonna keep her for atleast another season, or two to gain more saddle time and experience. :D

One of the harder parts of organizing a group ride, it being "the one" to bring everybody together, pre-ride, and getting things sorted out.
As uncomfortable as it might seem to somebody to be "spokesperson", you absolutely have to lay down the expectations of the ride, let people know that there are rules (albeit few) they need to abide by, and spell-out the common issues that people may or may-not realize.
Especially when there is somebody in the group that you know is "new", it is essential to talk about things like leaving the group mid-ride, having cold tires and not being too excited, staggering your formation around town, NOT stunting, counting the number of riders, to ensure everybody is accounted for, and more...
All those things, while seemingly annoying and unnerving to talk about, and even presumptious to some, should just simply be part of any ride, where new people are encountered. It's exactly the type of thing that should seperate a CSC ride from any other organized/non-organized ride.
Not to say it would have, but it's very possible that this speech could have prevented the crash, as well as weeding out that stunter all-together. Food for thought for anybody coordinating a group ride in the future.

agreed barn, something i will definitely do for the next ride i put together. I had just figured that for most of the people there, i had ridden with before, we know the expectations of eachother, and the rules.
So, with that being said when's the next ride???

I actually went over almost all that stuff with everyone (though not as one group, more one on one)....part of the stunta issue was that he just showed up out of no where when we were fixing another bike. As for the wreck, I don't think any amount of talking or ride rules would have prevented that one...I started out the ride behind him and *almost* went into the back of him as he nailed his brakes going through a left turn leaving the gas station. I made it around and decided to just lead in front of him, but from what he (and witnesses) said, he didn't look through his turn well and panicked when he saw a concrete barrier and just went into it. If he had mentioned that he was *that* new to riding, I would have recomended that he ride towards the back...instead he was towards the front and apparently checking his mirrors when he panicked. It happens, nothing serious went wrong, and we all enjoyed the rest of our day.

Damn guys - so sorry to hear about the mishap. :( So Suki - you two had contact and you kept the bike upright? Target fixation or no, that's pretty good. So very sorry for the new guy, and both your bikes..hope everything and everyone gets fixed up quick.
As for the stunter - my arsehole tolerance has slipped to about zero lately, glad you weren't stuck with him for long.
I had been keeping tabs on your ride plans but I have been down with the gawdawful flu since Tuesday so no riding at all for me lately.

You might be right Mel, but I distinctly recall a few folks becoming antsy to get rolling, when I was there chatting. One of the guys that I hadn't met before, was just standing around with his helmet on, waiting to roll out, and the guy on the black Honda (who crashed) was mumbling about "When are we gonna go?" "Are we gonna go ride?"
You might still think his accident was unavoidable, and I'm glad that you did talk to the people that you did; But I still have a feeling that a little pre-ride "Everybody listen up!" might have dialed him down a few notches on the Anxious Scale.
After all, it's not unheard of, to navigate an onramp successfully, with a little patience.
Either way, it's neither here-nor-there. I'm just commenting as an outside party that didn't see "The Speech" take place. Private conversations aside.

I agree with Barn... a Pre-Ride speech should always be in order, regardless, even if you do know how each person rides... Just a reminder, refresher, whatever.. keeps people in check.. IMO...
I was out riding yesterday and I had this Hardley rider pass me on my right, in my own frikken lane... :321: jackazz.... I saw him.. and my thought was "oh.. ok... you must want to catch up to your friends" thought... but he just wanted to get in front of me... whatevaaaa ?

Well either way, this weekend was a learning experience for the newb - to not look into his rearview mirror while in a turn and not take a corner to fast, and for a ride coordinator (me) to have a group huddle once a route is figured out to discuss the route, rules, expectations, etc and to find out who is a new rider, etc.
I'm just glad that it wasn't worse and that he was able to walk away from it. I've text him again today to see how he's doing, i'll post up once i hear back from him.

Yeh, thats me "the nOOb", "the antsy one", "the guy on the honda that can't ride", so let the flaming begin, oh wait it already has, I see from all the comments that this is a great bike community......
Anyways, I want to thank Suki for being the only nice person so far, yes some things could have been changed, not just me either, Sorry to everybody I pissed off and ruined the ride for, Suki, if you would like some money for repairs or help (I have bodyshop/parts connections, just let me know)
As far as being a newb, not really a newb to riding, just a newb to riding in big groups, biggest group i've ever been in was 4 bikes, basically I was really "antsy" as said before, I was very excited about meeting people who I thought were going to be a cool group, I did look in my rearview mirrors and drifted out far enough, and i saw the wall/gravel and did freak out, I slammed my brakes instead of leaning and letting my bike do the work as I looked through the corner, IT WAS DEFINATELY PREVENTABLE, oh well, hindsight is 20/20, I sustained no injuries and my bike is up and running, probably be painted and 100% by this weekend.....
Thanx, Kyle

lol, kyle you're nuts!!!
well as i said i'm glad you are okay and that the bike is fixable. I do feel somewhat responsible as i put this ride together and should have taken a few extra minutes (while we were all standing around scratching our asses to figure out a route, lol) to go over certain things and make sure everyone was cool and ready to ride. When you're excited, antsy, whatever, you're adrenaline gets going so as barn pointed out i should have made sure we were all on the right riding level to get going.
No one is upset with you and you DID NOT ruin the day or the ride, accidents happen and can happen to anyone. I was just really shook up because it happened right infront of me and i watched you go down without being able to do anything about it, then to top it off being an inexperienced rider I could not avoid hitting you, and i feel bad for that :(
The only person we were pissed off at was the jack ass that showed up at TK or whenever it was that he appeared, and started doing stupid shit on the ride, putting other rider's and other motorists in danger with his poor judgement on where and when to do his wheelies.
You are most welcome to join any ride kyle and i appreciate your offer for the repair to my fairing. Alan was able to bend the brake pedal back to it's position and is going to call a guy about getting a quote on the amount to fix the fairing.
I'm glad you're still in the game kyle!! :D

We weren't flaming you at all (go read the Wheelie Warriors section if you want to see flaming). Whenever something happens, it gets super analyzed and everyone tries to figure out why it happened and how it could have been prevented...in your case, potentially more experience (or leadership from the group) and a position further to the back where you wouldn't have been concerned with your mirrors would have helped the situation.
As I discovered the hard way last summer, everyone goes down at some point, no matter how careful you are (or how much experience). On a good note, I am DAMN fast sliding on my head, and despite my size/weight, I apparently bounce well

Ain't that the truth. I was Sir Crash-A-Lot last year. Went down twice in the same day at Deal's Gap and highsided once at SCR. It happens... Just gotta figure out what you did wrong to prevent it from happening again.
All in all, this is a good group of people that will go out of their way to help out. Just don't be that guy doing wheelies in the middle of the group or passing over the double yellow in blind turns and you'll be ok

We all know the pride will take a hit because of the emotions involved with our bikes. Fortunately nobody was injured. 8)
Ego of the rider to “be cool” can create the lack of good judgment with a powerful road rocket.
This past weekend has demonstrated a (yes…IMO) recommendation for all CSC peeps to refresh themselves on the Rules & Signals (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/club/rules.html). Every club has their own guidelines to help with the communication amongst each other so the overall experience in larger groups flows like water. The degree to which you internalize the rules & signal guidelines is to the degree to which your group ride shall succeed. Measure your riding abilities to your own resolution to success for the baby steps you set fourth on limits and goals.
