Being as though its already April  just wanted to see what the interest is in another camping trip this year. We were thinking about doing it Memorial Day weekend-- (End of May) open to all suggestions though.
Want to see how many peeps are interested so we can determine which camping spot to use (or find) in case we need a bigger spot.. :)

:D we'll try to keep it down this year, bwahahaha
what area's are you looking at ashli?
We're definitely going to do some camping/trail riding this summer but are going to look at some areas that are more, um Mountainey and not so deserty. The place we and Konichd all went snowmobiling also have campground with trails and such so we're going to look into that place, it's right by grand lake so for those interested in fishing, horseback riding, atv rentals and some other things too.
yay!!! i can't wait for summer! :D

If its up in the Grand Lake area where we rented sleds I'd be in for this! LOVE that area!

Like I said were totally up for suggestions-- the cool thing about Canon City is how secluded we were, no patrols at all and great fishing and a shooting range nearby--- Suki let me know what you find out about camping there k? :)

we would definetly be up for this. Memorial day weekend is crazy as hell though every mother f'er and their grandma is out camping that weekend. but if you know of a good spot to go that is out of the way it would probably be fine.

hell yeah! alan was chatting with a guy at the counter when we were checking out, and he was telling up that in the summer is a big ass campground but you can go up further in the mountains, via those trails, and camp too. that'd be awesome since the trails we were on are basically dirt roads and can drive the truck (and your trailblazer) up there.
I'm sure if you don't have a dirt bike or an ATV we can go into town and rent one there or down here in the city and then go trail riding. Alan's going to get me a ttr230 for a partial anniversary gift so i'ma be all up in that beeeeeeeyatch!!!
Ash, i'll see if i can scan that flyer and send it too you, it shows you the whole area, it's also not that far from the national forrest thingy area... which ever one that is

No offense to anyone, but that spot in Canon City blows chunks!!! Wide open dessert isn't camping to me. It's more like a spot to sleep while being homeless :D
Kim and I know a ton a GREAT places high in the mountains. Thick forest with tons of trails and altitude, baby. Now, that's camping. Besides, ya gotta have a place to hang the hammock. You can shoot anywhere in National Forest.

WTF Wicky wicky wa wa???
On a liter note, not to offend as well, i have to agree with dean on the camping spot. Woods, trails, hills, lakes, hamocks.....that is camping! So with that being said, my idea is either what suki was saying about the grand lake area, or what dean or kim was saying about the spot they know. And maybe not on memorial day weekend, just cause you KNOW it will be packed, but definitly some time soon!!!

Which is WHY I keep saying "were open to suggestions" Suki send me that flyer-- lets see how hard it would be to secure a camping spot there Memorial Day weekend :D

Got to agree too. I prefer more "mountain" camping spot also, so that is my vote :D

There are sooooo many spots in the mountains that I wouldn't think there would ever be a problem getting a spot during the Memorial weekend.
Rollins Pass (East Portal for Moffat Tunnel) is an excellent place. There's a great trail that we like to do at night. Part of the trail is a running creek that gets about two feet deep. Webster Pass is good too. There's just too many good places to list...

Every weekend is amateur weekend out there!! That place is only good in the winter. I would still go, though. I'll take any opportunity to ride at night!!!

I also prefer being at altitude, but we went rafting that weekend and well there really wasn't any forest in that part of the state! The fishing was kick ass though, I don't think I caught anything smaller than 16"!!
I'm only down for that spot if we go rafting again in Canyon City this year.
There are so many spots to go camping and not have to worry about crowds, its just a matter on how far people are willing to go.
Dean, you should toss out a few ideas on where you think would be a good place for us to go.

Whatever's clever. I don't even like camping really, I just like rafting, shooting guns, and drinking around open flames. Then shooting again.

What's the main objective of this trip?
If it's fishing, I have no clue where to go and humbly bow out on suggestions.
If it's riding, then I know a ton of places but, will probably have to go out Thursday night to get a spot and then relay info back to folks still in town. If I gave direction now and the spot has someone in it, then I'm not sure how people would find us.
Another place would be Vedauwoo (vead-a-voo) in Wyoming. We used to go there EVERY weekend a few years back. It's a world class rock climbing area. Tons of mountain biking and hiking, too. There's a few trails for riding as well. People would just have to rent climbing shoes, if they want. If you don't want to climb, there's a ton of bouldering, as expected.
We could also go boat camping like at Peublo res. or somewhere cool, too...

Fishing isn't the main objective-- I think just having fun is! Though, I know J, myself and Dave would like to have somewhere to drop a line but I'm sure we can map out some of those spots and find a place. As far as rock climbing goes???? and I would be down for some riding-- and I'm sure a few others would be too... I guess it just depends on how far people want to drive :dunno:

ash, update your first thread maybe with like a poll or something of what certain people want to do or where there interests lie.
I think i can say safely, that alan and i would be looking more for trails and maybe some shooting, i'ma go to walmart and get me an air gun!!!

There is this one spot up 285 called Mushroom Gulch, I would say that would be a good spot for a camping trip!!
If you wanna ride quads/dirt bikes, there are trails like a mofo!
If you wanna go fishing there is a creek to drop in a line.
If you wanna shoot guns, you can shoot till your little heart is content
Climbing is not an option there though....as least from what I remember!
I don't know what kind of traffic that place gets though! Jeff aka NickNinja was the one who told up about that spot, maybe he knows a little more then I do?

The only camping trip I'm locked in for, the the WW Rafting shindig that we have on the horizon... As far as this one goes, I'm down for whatever.
Personally Dean, all of your ideas sound fun as hell. And since Ash seems cool with any of that, I think you two should just set something up, and stamp it.
No better time than the present to finalize something, and start prepping.

So dirtbike riding would be out then? :P Considering we had like five votes for dirtbiking-- eek... is there anywhere to ride up there J?? Welp-- other than that it sounds perdy sweet-- Hey Nick-- whats the deal with traffic? Could anyone get there Thursday to save the spot?? I know I will have to come up with Dave Friday after work and could stay till Monday-- lets just do the mushroom gulch then :) Everyone else cool with there??

I guess you're right, after looking at my gazatteer it looks like they are not trails, they are dirt roads. It's still a good spot, there arae other places around that area to ride.
Im down for whatever though, as long as we go to a spot that is somewhat secluded! :D

Not really, there were quite a few people up there when we were, though nobody bothered us at our campground. Could have had something to do with all the gunshots though. :D LOL

Is it gonna be 4x4 accessible only? Or can a regular car make the drive? Well I'm more wondering if something lowered can make it....

I'm sure you'd be fine Kool Aid-- sounds like everyone just wants a decision to be made-- last night we talked about going to Rampart and camping there, only problem is how fookin' busy it gets there on Memorial Day weekend *hour drive to get into the park alone* total word of mouth though, I'm down with whatever, as long as some people can get there EARLY Friday or Thursday night, any volunteers?
