The last six weeks have been pretty rough for me and Kate. A chronic back problem caught up with me and I'm having a lot of trouble getting around. If you saw me at R2SL, you probably know that I've been reduced to a limping, wincing Quazimoto. Riding my bike isn't even an option right now and I'm meeting with a surgeon on Thursday who will probably tell me he wants to install steel rods on my spine to straighten a 57 degree scoliosis curve- that's about 4 inches of spine used up in 2 curves. We don't know when the surgery will be or how long the recovery time is. Kate is coaching basketball at her school and is usually busy until 6 or 7 at night with that and then she comes home to finish grading papers and generally has very little energy to pack and fix the house up by herself.

The dilemma: Kate and I are getting married and we're working hard to pay down our debt and reduce expenses. One of these expenses is my house. We're moving to a much cheaper place that's much closer to work and in a generally better area. We've found a place in Coal Creek Canyon that we're trying to rent starting next week. In order to sell my house we need to replace the roof, finish a doorway, paint the bathroom and kitchen, replace some power outlets and light switch covers, and move enough stuff out of the house to put it in good enough condition to show. The doorway and roof are covered but we need help with the other stuff.

What I need: labor. I can feed you, offer you an assortment of hard to find beer, provide enough red bull to asplode your melon, whatever. I can also offer a rest stop on your canyon rides once we get moved. :D

I need a few (or more) people to help knock this thing out in the next couple weeks. I can't guarantee how much work I can do but I'll do my best to make it a pleasant experience. Currently I've reserved this whole weekend from Friday to Sunday for house stuff. If you can help any time in there, post up or PM and let me know what you can do and I'll set up the grill.

Thanks,

Mike

Consider it done. You've certainly helped me out enough times! Do I need to bring tools? Trailer?

Thanks Ralph!

I have plenty of tools for this kinda thing. Kate's grandma lives on University and Florida and we're using her garage as a staging point for spare furniture and boxes. just getting one trailerload out of here would be very helpful. I'll also need someone to ride the WR over -or trailer- whichever is more fun.

I don't think I will be able to help next weekend (possibly during this week), but I would like to see what I can do the next (5/13-5/14).

Is the WR street legal? Does it need to remain on one wheel, or on pavement? Is the occasional off-road police chase necessarily a BAD thing?

I can bring the trailer over, and we can figure out the bike at that point. Donna may be with me, not sure what her plans are (especially since she hasn't seen this yet either).

I can help you paint --- but not on the weekend of the 13th of May. PM me with some directions.

I can see I'm going to need more organization... not my strong suit.

How about 2 work days:

Saturday the 6th and Next Saturday the 13th.

This Saturday we move extra stuff out and work on the finishing stuff in the non-paint rooms and maybe paint the bathroom.

Next Saturday (hopefully the kitchen door will be finished) we can paint the kitchen and move the last of the stuff that needs to be moved (we're showing the house with furniture). Maybe we can take a load up to the new place at the end of the day if time permits.

The WR is street legal... if you use the rear brake. Sit on the handlebars and you won't have much of a one-wheel problem :D The only truly heavy item is my safe and we can move it either day depending on muscle power (~120lbs)

Shooting you a PM now, Jeff!

9am Saturday morning? Pancakes or something otherwise motivating and yummy will be ready to go. I'm counting electrical outlets as we speak...

Thanks everyone for your help and encouragement. I was really depressed yesterday morning and nervous about asking for help at all and now I have a full crew for this Saturday and some are even lined up for next Saturday. There's light at the end of the tunnel!

2 updates:

1) Doc says he's gonna zip a steel rod up my spine 'cause I need straightening out. Says I'll gain 3-4" in altitude and feel all warm and fuzzy after 3 months. We're shooting for early July.

2) We got the place:

The boring part:

The more entertaining part:

:D

We're gonna need strong backs and trailers next Saturday. Shouldn't be scary- load up, one trip and BBQ. Meet THE Gene Bazyl and help mark the territory for the CSC by watering the trees. 8)

I would help out but this weekend and next I can't leave 20 mins from house or workp because of standby . That means no street bike riding in the mountains or anything, I stuck to around town. Sorry I could not help. The new place looks great.

Thanks a bunch to the guys that showed up on Saturday! Got a whole lot done, and thanks to Mr Ninja, we have plenty of boxes to pack up the rest of the stuff.

Got the key to the place today and Saturday is a go- we won't be moving much furniture, just the bed, a few booksleves, the garage stuff and the beer fridge.

Anyway, big props to the following:

Nick Ninja
Towneh
Ralph (how'd the WR do?)
Lurch and
King Nada "Ow stupid dumb!"

Since I have a trailer load of Dysco's stuff I am apparently in for Saturday (plus, well, it's free food). The WR is a trip to ride!! You, uh, SURE you want it back?

Define "trip". Figure out how to keep the wheel on the ground?

Still on for the 13th- loading trucks and trailers with pre-packed boxes and a bit of furniture at 9am in Aurora, then driving up to the cabin for unloading and BBQ. We need all the muscle we can get.

It's fairly low in the canyon- 9 miles up from hwy 93 just off Ranch Elsie.

Trip (adj.): Somewhere between "Holy shit that was fun!" and "Oh f**k!!"

Yeah, actually I haven't wheelied the thing yet. ;) Just gotta have some throttle control. That or ride it like a poo-say, either one works. School zones suck though, I'm doing 20mph like a good boy, and kept getting this twitch in my right hand and a voice in my ear saying "gun it, c'mon just up on the sidewalk and you're outta here, DO IT"... :guns:

Throttle control... maybe that's my problem. On dirtbikes, I think of it as traction control... kinda "on the stop unless something ugly is in front of you." Glad you're having fun. Do yourself a favor and hop a few curbs when nobody's looking.

Starting at 9, and probably totally done around 3 or so. Depends on how many people show up and how much ribs and beer you're gonna have. I encourage those without trucks and trailers to bring their bikes- there's about a half-block of dirt right before the place but it's not too bad.

The back is getting better but it's just a really big ache instead of muscle spasms now. :D

On the up side, I found what seems to be an unlimited supply of fat rainbow trout about 10 minutes from my house, 30 minutes if I get creative. Got one today so thick I had to fillet it to pan-fry. Next week I start work on my smoker!

Bah! There's a ridiculous amount of fun dirt roads about 2 minutes from the house. Next summer the WR is getting a set of 17s and I'm gonna find a good traffic lawyer...
