View Full Version : Ride Sunday 9th. Bishop's Castle
The Black Knight
Fri Jul 7th, 2006, 11:33 PM
Looking to get some people together for a small group to Bishop's Castle Sunday weather permitting. Probably meet up at the coffee shop on Hwy 115 and Academy. There is a Shell station right there for fueling up.
Looking to leave around 8:30 or 9:00 at the latest. With the forecast rain coming in during the afternoon hours, it would be best to get out, get down and back quickly. May stop in Westcliffe for a quick lunch. Then head back.
Anyone know if Hwy 115 is open? Hopefully it is, if not we'll have to go the long crappy way around and come in to Bishop's from the south.
If you'd like to ride and get out for awhile. Just post up or meet up at the Shell.
This is all weather permitting though, so don't hold your breathe with this kind of weather we're having.. HAHA

Here is a link to the CDOT travel information. Look under road conditions. I hope it helps. The route from CO 115 is restricted short of Florence.
http://www.cotrip.org/
The report says that it is closed north of Florence. The road is washed out. Alternate routes are mentioned.
I want to join and we will see if I can make it.

I'm looking forward to getting out, I talked to Brian last night and he said he will be there. See you in the morning.

Well looks like we may have to go around it Robbie. At least we can get part of the way down 115, Penrose, then go to Canon. Not to bad then. I'm looking forward to it as well.
So what time are we deciding on being there dude?
8:30? leave at 9:00?
Let me know man...

Judging from the weather forecast for the weekend, I'm going to guess that no one will be able to ride unless you're willing to ride in the rain.
The monsoon season came early this year, and not too soon. Maybe it will mitigate the extreme fire danger. But I hope this doesn't last all the way through the end of August as the monsoon season typically does. That could just about ruin the summer riding season.

I'm down for sure, I was going to do one of several trips starting at the Morrison Conoco today (saturday), but when I got up at 7am this morning and saw the weather, was like fuk that. Hopefully tomorrow will be much better, and I agree the earlier the better most likely. At least to avoid the larger thunderstorms.

I would like to go too but the weather says it will rain tonight and showers tomorrow morning with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Not looking good. :(

Yeah I only have my textile jacket atm, which is fairly water resistant, but not exactly great for long rainy rides. I wish the weather would get better was really looking forward to meeting some of you.

Yeah its HAHA pouring at my house right now and its 11:25pm. Doesn't look like it's going to be letting up anytime soon. Been like this since around 9:00pm.
Looks like tomorrow is out. My dad brought up a good point too. Even if we manage to get around all the washouts there is still good possiblities that some of the other roads have minor debris on them as well.
May have to sit out a few weeks and let the canyons dry up. From the footage I saw tonight on the local news about what happened to Deckers, it wouldn't surprise me if other highways in Colorado got hit as hard. Reports say the Hwy 67 is closed indefinetely.
So thanks to the monsoon flow of moisture I'm selling the bike and getting a boat.. HAHA!
Well I'm out for tomorrow. Hopefully we can set something up maybe next weekend. Not sure though, MotoGP is back next weekend. We'll see how it plays out..
Later...

Yeah Robbie, it sucks. Was raining a bit this morning early. We'll have to plan another ride dude. I know at the end of July. The 28th is another trackday at PMI. Its on a Friday. I'm thinking of doing that one, unless Eli and I try and hit a Erie trackday. I'd like to try Erie just because it'd be something different. La Junta would be great again too.
Let me know man. I'll talk to you later. Maybe we can try something this coming weekend. Eli will be back from Pennsylvania, he'll be down for a ride.

yeah I just looked it up on SpeedTV.com. Well if we could be back for the races before 2:00pm I'd be down for a ride. We'll have to see how this week plays out for weather. I know it's supposed to clear out, the next couple of days is still forecast for rain. Hopefully no more moutain washouts.
We may just have to wait til the next track day Robbie to have a get together. I'm looking forward to running down at PMI again at the end of the month. Hopefully you'll be in for this one dude. I know I'll be there for the afternoon session(12-4).
We'll keep our options open..

That would be great if we could organize a ride to leave from the Springs early and meet up with some of the group at Morrison. I'm really looking at a Sunday ride if at all possibe. Brians' only day off is Sunday and it would be really good to hang out with him a few more times before the new addition to the family arrives. I have a feelling that once that happens his riding time will be greatly reduced, maybe not, though. I know the last time we rode up to Morrison and around that way we were home pretty early. If the group just wants to do a Bishops Castle run that would be great also. I know the last time we ran Bishops we left at 8:30 and we stopped had lunch, hung out for a while and we still made it back to town by noon. Maybe some of the Northern guys would come down and do the ride with us? I'm in for whatever, just say the word.
