Dear Mr Yamaha YZF,

Today on my way home in my boring old cage going down good ol 287 towards Loveland I noticed you were missing something. You had a very nice padded jacket on, nice looking boots, nice blue jeans and gloves i believe, but alas your helmet was no where to be seen...NO...WAIT...MR MAN!!! I FOUND IT! It is strapped to the rear seat!!! I point to it to let you know i found it so you can fully accessorize and complete your outfit, but to my disappointment you are not as happy as i am that i found your helmet for you. So as i see you disappear in my rear view mirror because you choose the wrong lane ;) I thought to myself that I would let the world know that i found your helmet so they to can let you know :slappers:

Disclaimer: This story in no way should imply that you NEED to wear a helmet or that i care that you wear your helmet. So with that in mind if this thread is still not remotely funny well then i am truly, madly, deeply sorry.

I just have to wonder why you care if a complete stranger is wearing a helmet? It is not required by law, and is a personal right to make that choice. I know I don't care, do you really?

I wouldn't wear a helmet either if I were around you. It would hinder the launching of a large luger in your general direction. Get over the fact that there is no helmet law and people can go without brain buckets whenever they wish here in Colorado.

Makes me laugh. Hey, I just thought of doing something crazy, like the next time I see someone riding around with the helmet strapped to their bike instead of their head, yell out to them..."hey, I found your helmet!" I'd probably get the finger more often than I'd like, but it'd be pretty funny.:doublefinger::yes:

I totally agree, you dont have to wear a helmet and is totally within your legal right, but i always ponder why put on the heavy padded jacket and boots? It's was 90 degrees out and i know the body itself can handle far more blunt force trama than the head so there for it always baffles me....but its cute how defensive you are of my entertaining story....

Defensive? Entertaining? uhh.......no just worn out about the gear Nazi attitudes, if the guy wants to ride in a dress so what?
Funny thing is, if they go down without a helmet and kill themselves it is way cheaper than if they live and require long term care, insurance companies probably prefer the no helmet option.

Ahhh i guess people are just getting the wires crossed, i find it entertaining that ANYONE is in almost in full gear with the helmet strapped behind them.

It's like having unprotected sex with a condom on the night stand.

I would make the same post if the dude had a coat on, helmet on, jeans on, but was wearing flipflops but had riding boots strapped to his seat.

Guess i am the only one that gets my humor, now i feel like i am http://coracing.net/gizzmo18/DeadHorseStick.gif

What's REALLY funny is that you are absolutely correct (somewhere I have the stats to prove it) and the health insurance companies themselves were a large part of getting the helmet laws passed with the logic of "seatbelt laws saved us money, so will helmet laws!"

The problem is: wearing a helmet on a bike is not the same as wearing a seatbelt in a car - it's more like wearing a seatbelt on an airplane!

When someone is in a crash they will end up in 1 of 3 generic categories:

A - virtually uninjured or slighly injured
B - massive injuries requiring long term care and/or resulting in permanent damage
C - dead

A and C or inexpensive for the health insurance companies, B is what hurts them. The problem is that because a helmet only protects your head after the helmet laws were passed a larger number of people moved from C to B than from B to A. You end up with a lot of people with massive body trauma that would have died without a helmet who have now survived, but because the helmet didn't protect their bodies the insurance companies now have to pay to fix and rehabilitate them. And/or because they were wearing a helmet they have (surviveable) head trauma and brain injuries that would have otherwise been fatal.

I'm all for people having the right to choose, I just find the helmet laws ironic considering who was pushing them so hard.

hehe, I took a guy on the back of my bike wearing a skirt and a tank top....freaking hilarious (though a group of rednecks almost kicked our ass).
Anyways, I find your story funny...I am all for the right to choose, but I think it funny to wear the jacket in the 100 degree heat and leave the helmet on the back.

i am all for the right to choose. i think it's stupid to not wear a lid but hey it culls the litter so to speak and i have no problems with that. but i find it completely idiotic that some dumbass would choose to ride without his helmet but doesnt want to leave it at home. that person should be pulled over and shot just for being so stupid. if you're gonna bring it with anyway, at least wear it....
