I was going to ride passenger to Mike, but he's working that day. :(
Can't wait to start learning street riding though! Have to do the course and get the permit and a bike. Wow... that's a lot of prep I still have to do.

Uh... yeah... about having him ride passenger... I don't think so!
I'll be doing good just to keep the bike balanced with my own weight! ;)

If you're referring to the MSF course, you won't need a permit. Successful completion of the course satisfies the CO DMV written and riding tests so you'll just have to bring in a card to the DMV and they'll add that sweet little M! :D

Just to make sure I understand what you are saying....
Once I take the MSF course, that will get me a motorcycle DL?

That's right! I took my course last July, and after one heck of a weekend, I was a proud owner of an "M".
Try and take the course when the weather is still cool. It was a little too toasty in July. I was surprised that I had to wait a couple of months for a spot, so call early!

Is the course still state sponsored? I heard rumors that it's not anymore ... and just was for a couple years. When I took my MSF course in 2000, it wasn't state sponsored, so the course just satisfied the riding portion of the test and I had to take the written portion at the DMV in order to get my endorsement.
Either way, it's awesome that you're taking the class! That is one of THE smartest things you can do when you first start riding! And definitely call ahead to take the class ... it does book up fast!!! The next smart thing to do is when you find a bike that you want to buy, insure it BEFORE you get off the dealer's or owners property. I've heard bad stories of people planning to insure the bike when they get it home and crash it or drop it ... no insurance makes it expensive to fix!

I'll be sure to ask when I call about the course if it's still state-sponsored or not. That would be great if it is, but if not, I'll deal. Hopefully, I can take it within the next couple months as I'm getting more anxious to get on the street as the weather gets better. I've been learning on dirt so far, and having a blast with that!
Thanks for the tip about insuring a bike before leaving the property with it. I don't know when I'll be able to afford one though. Have to borrow one of Mike's bikes for a while, but at least I can start getting some experience.
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I can hardly wait to get out there with all of you!

State sponsorship dropped way down for the class unfortunately. It used to cost about $70 for state residents, now it is at or above $200.
