Okay so I usually have this rule about not riding the mountains after sanding has started...but...the weather is just so very nice.
So RECENT road reports for 7, 34, 36, P2P, Poudre - anyone? Particularly how much sand/gravel (every curve, every other, just down the center, etc.).
Just got myself a $110 speeding ticket (and I was lucky she was feeling nice) last week :( so I really, really can't afford to wad the bike wiping out on CDOT gifts.

Ooo, ooo, can I cut in here? Report from C_M is 36 is great down to Lyons...34 up to Glen Haven is fine...he goes Glen Haven to Estes, so that's pretty bad in the last 1/4, yuk! But, you know me, I won't go up that way in winter anyways.
Still need all the others...like Bat said, just in case.

Thanks for the report! That was going to be the next trip so very good to know. Maybe we'll just pop up and down 7 for grins.
34 and 36 are both still clean as a whistle (as previously reported).

I went up thru Poudre 14 and back down thru risk canyon. Its pretty shitty. There is a lot of gravel out and not really worth going thru there unless you want to just go put putting around but still be careful because it is pretty nasty up there. Maybe it is a little better now, but the run off off the hills are still there and they are no fun.

Ok...I'll bite. He, he...couldn't help the play on words, Bat.
So, today I decided to take the long way home after hopping on down to my bank in Longmont. The long way consists of taking either hwy7 or hwy36 up to Estes and then down hwy34 to home.
I decided to take hwy7 today, since I haven't been up that way for a while. It was really great at the beginning. Not a single automobile, or bike was on the road all the way up to the hwy72 turn off. So, well, I had to take advantage. I just was dumb-founded by the emptiness. The bad thing? The wind was biting...I mean freezin' cold, even with the sunshine, I was just a tad on the cold side. Once up at the top of hwy7 around the Mt Meeker area, the mountain was shrouded in a mist of clouds and tiny snowflakes went shooting by. I was not any warmer, just colder and my hands were definitely missing their movement...hence, braking and shifting were getting a tad difficult.
Once I got down to Estes, though, I decided to stop for a hot cup o' latte...mmmm, dayum, it was good...and it warmed my frozen digits nicely. After getting properly warmed, I headed back down hwy34...got stuck behind a line of about 6 cars, but not for too long:eyebrows:. My favorite part of 34 is the narrows, though. The entrance to Big T canyon is so much fun, because of the tight twists in it...unfortunately, I was once again stuck behind a car...this time, there was no getting around because of the short straights...so, I decided to hold back and wait for the car to disappear around each turn, then I shot around the curves leaning like crazy. Of course, I'd catch up with that car and have to do the wait, disappear, throttle up, lean and wait over and over again.
In all, it was a good ride despite the cold. Been checking the weather, though and it doesn't look good for middle of the week...we may be grounded for a bit after Sunday.:(
hwy7: gravel at the top in the middle of the lanes, along the sides, and along the yellow line; snow along the edges
hwy34: no gravel, clean all the way up to Estes
