My BBG1500 attempt last June: maybe it'll help someone out...

Holy crap I was totally wrong! I just found this on my computer at work. I only made 1150 miles in ~19 hours. The last entry was me taking too long to find a cheap smoke-free room on the Oregon-Washington border.

Those Little America bastards had their clock all out of whack (noticed in Oregon) and I probably should have gotten gas before eating in Evanston for a better record of avg speed. Tremonton, UT was the only place I couldn't pay at the pump but the lady at the counter was really nice and called me in over the intercom before I pulled out my card to tell me the reader was broken- the station was also 3 miles off the freeway.

I never turned this in because it wasn't clean- the Little America clock was off. I had also intended to do 1600 miles before stopping and I was bummed about missing the BBG. I did get the witness forms for the SS1k, though, and it's not hard to get a stranger to sign one.

Avg speed was 60+. I stopped for a long breakfast in Evanston, WY and sat down to eat a cinnamon roll in ID. Total time not gassing or riding was over an hour, but I don't know exactly. Avg rolling speed was around 85 but it got a little slower in the last few hours due to fatigue. Bike was a Honda 919. I bought a small windshield for the ride back which would have been really nice to have on the way there.

I learned to

-Always check reciept time
-Get gas before eating if I'm going to eat- then get another receipt or log when I leave to get better idea of my stats
-Wind protection is key
-Get an MP3 player- I got sick of my singing after 300 miles and started playing tic-tac-toe with myself in my head... sad.
-Keep rain gear on the whole time
-Gas station water tastes like crap
-The people in cars that I've been leapfrogging will want to talk bikes- get a pump at the end and don't make eye-contact.

Good to know, thanks for the writeup! I don't think we'll need rain gear next weekend (if there is anything water-based coming down, it'll be freezing, which means I'll be at home toasty warm) but the rest of it makes sense.

I'm actually looking forward to this SS1K run, should be a blast! Unsure if I can get that CB package before then but we'll see.

Ralph needs one
Disco needs one
Spidey might get one
Jeff needs one,(assuming he can make it)
Dalton, our mystery rider?
Gary?? maybe

Perhaps if we all bought together we could get a sssmokin deal!?

Wow, pretty dry to get a bike out of Nederland this time of year.

I know, tomorrow's usually the best football day of the year...still deciding.

Jeff, any news on the work front? Worse case scenario- you can't do the CC, will you still be rolling Westward for the 3 day weekend?

Just yaked with irishzx9 up in Fort Fun and we're going to meet (after he hookes up @ REI with other fans) for brunch @ Mimi's @ Flatiron Crossing. After that the plan is out US 36 to Lyons (take the short cut via CO 119 to Jay Road) then up US 36 North Saint Vrain Canyon to Estes Park then down US 34 to Loveland. Maybe go up to Fort Collins but maybe not.
