Okay, so I just picked up a K5 and I'm looking to install a Yoshi pipe. Before I install it on the bike I would like to shorten it 5"-6". Has anyone had any experience with this that they would like to share (what to do and not to do). Just looking at the pipe from the outside it apprears that one must drill the rivets out of one end (which end I don't know matters) and cut the pipe, drill new holes, and apply rivets. Do need to take any of the baffels out before I cut?? Repacking?? Any help would be great. Thanks!!

I have modified several stock pipes but no aftermarket ones. The problem you are going to have is finding were the chambers (if any) start and end. On stock pipes there are several different chambers that effect flow/sound absorbtion etc. So on a stock can you just keep cutting shorter untill you get to the beginning of the next chamber. Thats the point where you would want to rivet the end. It does take awhile to find the right point so it sounds right and looks good. I have pictures but can not find them, if you need any help give me a call or you could bring it down to my shop if you want. 719-648-6520 -Treacy

just wondering why you want to shorten the can? Does the can you want to make shorter have damage? We have seen a yosh can that has been shortened make 2 to 3 horse power less then a can that was not cut short. This was done on a dyno back to back with a full Yosh system only changing the cans.

It's for looks. The 2006 GSX-R 600 and 2006 R6 caught my attention with the stubby pipe. If I'm going to loose some horse power I might not go down this road.

The_Jackel - Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on this depending on my direction.

i agree the 06 systems do look nice.I have a Leo system on my bike and it looks and fits awesome.
If this is for a street bike i wouldnt worry all that much about the horsepower anyway.
