.....My wife shared an exchange with my daughter (2&1/2) and said I should pass it on.
.....

OK, that's just cuter than a box of puppies.
(Especially liked the rundown of the various bikes.)

Looks like you all had a great time. I’ll go next year. I’ll be pre-riding my bike tour in two weeks on the same roads. Did you run into any major road construction projects?

I gotta get a new rear tire after that ride...it's getting an oklahoma flat strip. Darn, guess i'll have to stick to the twisties.
I'll be working on a Safeway in Denver for 20days this month. I think I'm gonna ride my bike up there and stay in a hotel(on the company's $). I'll have to hit some of you peeps up and ride some

Ha! My Avons are sport touring tires. Got them in April at about 7200 miles. I've got over 12,000 on the Zed now and noticed that flat top you speak of today when I was out and about. Yep, looks like new tires here, too. Oh and keep us Northies in mind when you get to Denver.

N_N's clutch was starting to complain too much. At South Fork, we broke from the pack and stuck to a mellow pace. Too bad we couldn't find any scenery.

I was hoping that another shot of the rock formation in the background would turn out. It was especially funny because one of the riders in front was making kind of a groping/stroking gesture at it. I must have been laughing too hard.

The memo that the rest of you missed.

Corbin Scouts Troop 1157 Official Dress Code:

All scouts must be ATTGATT during riding hours. (see diagram f-4i)

After hours dress code is: Hawaiian or otherwise loud party shirt, shorts, riding boots with matching black socks. Left hands should be decorated with a beverage of choice. Remember, you represent the troop. Wear it with pride and take no shitt!

I left the camera in the other uniform, so you'll have to use imagination.

Batteries dead, brain & limbs fatiguing, I took the afternoon off from snapping. The Black Canyon is simply not a place to multitask (for me, at least). For that section of the ride I even turned my music and scanner off.

This was the last pic that wasn't sky, thumb or instrument cluster.

Agreed. I kept the iPod going, but almost beat you guys to the bottom when I spent a little too long enjoying the scenery in one turn early on. From there on out I decided a little more focus and a little less gawking would probably be in my best interests. :) I did stop a couple times for a minute and take it in, though.

Some interesting trivia about where we rode...

The Monarch-Agate Pass road was built with some protest from citizens on the eastern slope of the pass. The highway engineers had decided that the highway had to be built above the towns of Arbourville and Garfield to catch more of the sun's rays. This meant the highway had to be built over and through their cemeteries.

Frank Gimlett, a former proprietor of the Salida Opera House and writer of a series of paperback books called Over The Trails Of Yesterday, was greatly disturbed about the highway department's decision. He claimed in one of his books (Book Six) that the highway department with "fiendish glee" dug up and crushed the bones of departed pioneers in the middle of the night. The highway department, Gimlett claimed, did not want to bother with careful removal and relocation of the cemeteries. Gimlett proclaimed the Monarch-Agate Pass highway to be "The Ghost Highway Of The Rockies."

I wouldn't dare say this is off topic. You're just too fast for us to get many pics of you. These photos essentially show what you looked like on the whole ride, sans the signals and tail pack. If I were clever or talented, I'd just photochop the lights and luggage into it for you.

Well gang, I didn't race.

Arrived in Mosport last wednesday and the race wasn't open yet. Open track day. Mosport is super technical with 4-7 story elevation changes. Most of the corners were repaired with concrete so your line basically has you on a 12-36 inch strip on the inside of each turn and you're knee-dragging the turtles.

The fast groups were full so I was put in the green group - for the weekend warriors. During the first session, I pulled off because the green riders were frick'n all over the place. Went out with the yellow group and got shit for it. 3rd session, i'm back with the green group and I let them take off first. I then did a slow lap to get myself some distance and then I pinned it.

I was cooking over the hill going into turn 2 (all you see is blue sky coming over the hill) which is 7 stories downhill, off camber with a left had hook turn at the bottom. Well, I'm moving at abotu 115 mph, come over the hill and greenhorns biff, cam, and dave are all riding side by side at about 10mph right on the race line. I miss them by going wide. On an off camber downhill turn, you can't use yer brakes at speed. You will lose the rear end. So I sit up and start gently gearing down and runnoff the race track.

So here I am.. still keeping the bike up doing a tour of a field Dukes of Hazzard style and still scrubbing speed and turning left so I don't hit the rather large wall of tires coming at me.

"Oh, nuts..."

I remember feeling the impact and then the next thing I'm in the ambulance heading to the hospital. I was down for about 10 min. The paramedic asked me my name and I responded "Fries, please". LOL

5 xrays and a cat scan later I was cleared medically but really nauseaus and dizzy. Couldn't even sit up.

On thursday, the track doctor clears me to get back on the track. I missed 2 of the morning practices because I was getting the bike back together. Bend left rotor and clipon and some cow sh*t in the sliders.

I ran really slow during the evening practice with a bad case of the nerves. After 8 laps, I got off because I started having tunnel vision.

Friday, I do all 3 practice sessions and run the qualifier for WCC. I ran 8th fastest lap time!!! go me!

Against the men, my lap time was 28th in a field of 150.

Saturday morning early, I wake up because I can't breathe properly. Taking more than a 1/4 breath is way painful. Track doc sends me back to hospital. More Xrays.. and I get tested for a pulmonary embolism and pneumothorax.

Doctor: "None of your ribs are straight. Have you broken them before?"
Me: "I've been a busy beaver"

Turns out I had torn the diaphram. Nothing major.

Saturday afternoon, the AM600 qualifier and round 4 WCC final is cancelled because of rain so they use the morning practice session for qualifying times. They wouldn't use my WCC lap time. I would have been in row 6.

Sunday, rain is bad. Alot of crashes. Took 3 hours to run the Pro600. After the podium, they anounce that WCC round 5 finals will still run. Track doc and race director tell me if the track is wet at all, they will DQ me because I'm still dizzy. I didn't mention I couldn't see out my right eye.

So I'm in the pits doing the sun dance and the track is drying... I ignore them and head out for my 2 warm up laps. Track is greased lightening. Every corner is a mess and your rear is swishing all over the place. I get flagged back into hot lane and I'm done.

So, I didn't get to race... but running 1:33:7 qualifier sure was kewl with a bent bike and one eye. The top rider was 1:30 and the slowest was 1:46.

That was my week. I'm in Nebraska now driving home feeling pretty good about everything that happened. Need to replace the rear subframe and get the bike checked to see if the forks and headset are straight. Got a few deep bruises here and there. Vision is coming back in my right eye. About 90% and just a touch blurry.

Pueblo is next.

Medical bill: 5K Running a 1:33:7 with a bent bike and one eye: priceless.

Ciao!

PG

BUMP!

Talk about a stroll down CSC memory lane! 2007 was full of happier times.
First summer riding, no great recession, no dividing political threads, everything seemed to be coming together.

Pictures start on page 9.

Make sure if you are going to Pagosa Springs to TAOS, NM that you gas up in Pagosa as there is only one gas station between there.. And if you miss it you are SCREWED! GPS shows plenty but we counted 6 that were closed and out of business on that route. I also gotta stand at the side of the road and wait for gas.. and Cat let some backwoods guy tie the gas can with no lid onto the back of her bike and it fell forward on to her.. Pouring gas all down her pants.

Infact... Take a gas can or two also! =)
