Holy sh*t!!!!! My buddy just contacted Boulder Powersports where he purchased his bike, spoke with the service department about track prepping his bike. They wanted 680.00 bucks???

So safety wiring, flushing the radiator, and adding some special fluids to the radiator that was track legal (water wetter?)

Maybe that includes like decaling the headlights etc?

For that kinda money, it better include race bodywork.

Haha I got $2.50 painters tape for that. and you just need to tape them and disconnect the wiring.....

Painter's tape?

they might call it their special decals that are track legal....since they referred to water wetter or whatever they use as "special fluids that are track legal"....

Safety wiring a stock bike is a very labor intensive process.

However, is he talking about RACE prepping, or just what's necessary for track days? There's a huge difference.

Just for what is necessary for track days..... but included the safety wiring I believe.

They also added that they weren't really interested in track prepping a bike, that may have added to the price....

he shouldnt have to have it saftey wired for a trackday.

My buddy mentioned track day.....but, the service guy at B Powersports advised it was flushing radiator, safety wiring, and going over basic stuff with the bike.

The service rep did ask if it was for race or just a track day.....and clearly knew it was just a track day for Pueblo.

I've heard some folks are spending 1.5 to 2.5K just to ride at R2SL. This includes hotels and fees. I would assume that some of the costs are tax deductible.

I was the one that went in.
They told me $680 (8hrs labor) plus "parts"

They made sure it was just a track day for PMI and not a race day. Iv never had a bike track preped before but thought that must have been high.

Anyone know what it should cost somewhere else? or where to go?

here is a suggestion for you, buy or download a service manual, learn to do the work on your own. flushing your rads takes about an hour, learn your main schedule, saftey wiring is not easy but its not hard and the tools to do it are not expensive.
or find a racer in your area they will be more than happy to teach you how to wire a bike and how to get it ready for track days.
use the money you save by doing the work yourself on suspension upgrades and more trackdays

:imwithstupid: Problem solved.

If you really want your bike saftey wired, do it yourself. Flushing your radiator is doable. Everything they are doing is doable yourself. If you really want someone else to do it for you Hoopty says he'll do it for $500 :lol:

Hey guys,

If it's for a trackday at pueblo there are just a few things you need to do.

1. Flush the radiator-

Time= about 1 hour
Materials= 3-4 gallons distilled water (less than $5.00) and one bottle water wetter (about $8)

2. Remove mirrors, and fuses for lights
Time=about 15 min.
Materials= Nothing

3. Tape over headlights, turn signals, brake lights
Time= 15 minutes
Materials= 1 roll blue painters tape (less than $5.00)

4. Inspect bike for leaks, good tires, good brakes, good chain and sprockets and proper chain tension.

Time=15 min to 1 hour depending on items found
Materials= if you don't need anything $0.

Now, I'll undercut dave and do it for $400.....but really you shouldn't pay anyone to do this kind of work.

Safety wiring a bike is a very labor intensive thing just as the Gecco said. I hate to sound like a dick but if you cannot do it yourself and are unwilling to learn how, then you should expect to pay a pile of money to have someone else do it for you. The tech doing the work has a right to make a decent living too.

what does safety wiring consist of?

I dunno how helpful this is, or again, what they planned to do for you, but I *think* you can take your bike to TFOG Wheelsports and they will safety wire the bike for you for like $100 (maybe a lil less, ask DK). As for the rest, flushing a radiator is quite easy (though you will want to do that BEFORE the fairings are safety wired on) and taping lights requires painters tape and removal of a few fuses.
If you want to "race" prep a bike, that would require aftermarket fairings (at least upper and lower to catch fluids), aftermarket case covers, and then the safety wire and removal of anitfreeze. There are a ton of people on here who can help with just about anything you want, and I would be willing to help out as well (though I don't feel like tapping and safety wiring because it is a pain in the ass).

Most of the stuff i have been forced to learn how to do myself due to a lack of money, i just didnt know what to do and when i went in to ask and they quoted me $680 i figured it was beyond my mechanical know-how.

Sounds simple enough to do so long as i have the patience lol :banghead:
