if not, and you do use some sort of ear bud, what do you use and do you like them?

ive never used earplugs, never felt the need to.... i have, however used stock and aftermarket ipod earbuds, but then quickly switched to helmet speakers, as the earbuds dont really like to stay in while donning the lid..... if you are set on earbuds with music, and i do mean SERIOUS.... check out some of the mold to fit earbuds.... they block out quite a bit more outside noise, and as long as youve spent quite a bit of cash, play music flawlessly...

I use the Etymotic ER-6i ear speakers (http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx), I tried a bunch of "cheaper" solutions and ended up spending more than I would have just buying these in the first place. Right now Buy.com (http://www.buy.com/prod/etymotic-er6i-blk-b-isolator-earphones-black/q/loc/101/204166579.html) has them for $76.99. That type (like the Shure as well) and the molded type that PhL0aTeR posted about are hard to beat.

I've used my Koss Plugs earbuds for a few years now and have been very happy with the noise reduction, stereo volume and bass response.

I use CEP's. That's what I use for flying as well. They sit well inside your ear, so that there's no comfort issue. The only thing is that they work very well and you have to keep your head on a swivel more than usual.

It's the last one on the page. Stero CEP's. $85 + maybe 5-6 for shipping.

I've tried several earbuds including the Koss and the Etymotic. I can only last about an hour with the Etymotic's before they're unwearable due to the discomfort. I got the replacement ear pieces but even the small ones are irritating. Neither of them work when I have a helmet on. Either they fall out as I try to don the helmet or they're so large, I'm in pain after just a few minutes due to the pressure of the helmet on the ear pieces.

For trips, I use an autocom with helmet speakers. I carved out the foam so the speakers fit flush and even with the ears and use an amp with the ipod so I can hear it. Unless something quiet comes on, I can hear most music and even talk on the cell phone.

Get the Shure E3's! End of disscusion. There $. but i put them in, and it drowns out everything. Also Shure warrenty is awesome! If they break in 2 years they fix them for free. After that, its $75 and they give you a new set ( I put my own 220 pounds on one) but i love them

I just bought a set of Sony MDR-EX51LP to replace my Koss Plugs, and although the helmet goes on and off easire, and they seem to block out ambient noise a bit better, they just don't have the bass of the Koss Plugs (even tho the specs are similar), so I've gone back to the Plugs. Mine are almost 5 years old, the wires are getting brittle, and there are some other minor issues, but I just noticed this on the Koss website:

The Plug features a No-Questions-Asked Lifetime Warranty.

I use the sony earplugs (like the ones you showed there) that came with my phone and listen to my MP3 while I ride. Will caution though to keep it low as it is easy to wash out sounds that might be vital to riding. On the other hand it is real nice to listen to music and I do notice I huge difference to riding w/o the ear plugs. It has come to the point I treat the plugs just like my helmet.

I found a cheap set of headphones at Target that took about 15 minutes to convert into helmet speakers. Sound quality is decent, you can still hear ambient sounds if you want, and they've been cop tested and found to be legal (same cop would have busted earbuds). Just take the back plastic piece off the headphone and add some double sided foam tape and they fit perfect inside the ear cavity of my Nolan and HJC helmets.

Awesome, I've heard a lot of good things about Etymotic, but their steep price got in the way. Thanks for pointing them out on buy.com!
