I've been putting 101 octane fuel in my bike at 8bucks a gallon and the bike loves it! There is power that I never new the bike had. It's even a lot quicker to start. Idles the same, 500rpm. But the problem I'm noticing is that my engine is running a lot hotter now. Anyone else experience that?

:wtf:

You obviously don't understand what an octane rating represents....

Perhaps a little enlightenment is in order . . . please feel free to post what you know, so we can all benefit . . .

These octane threads are almost as good as oil threads. http://www.boulder.swri.edu/%7Eterrell/images/goofy.gif

Take Dave's advice and use the search function.

Very good info Bueller much appreciated. It's true "you learn something everyday".

It actually may not have been the 101 that I thought I'd put in. Perhaps it's the racing fuel. Being that everyone else was filling up on it I didn't ask any questions just followed suit. But I know for a fact that my bike loved whatever it was I'd put in

The quick and dirty version is that octane is NOT the measurement of the energy content of a fuel. Octane is measurement of the fuels ability to resist spontaneous detonation when heated by compression. High octane fuels actually burn slower and cooler than lower octane fuels.

Because higher-octane fuels actually resist burning, ideally you want to run the lowest (yes, I said lowest) octane fuel you can without getting pre-detonation. The hotter, faster flame front in the cylinder will result in an increase in power output. Putting higher-octane fuel in an engine that doesn’t exhibit symptoms of needing it will actually result in a (very small) decrease in power output, especially in the low end and mid-range when slower piston velocities generate even less heat from compression. Oxygenated fuels are excepted from all this – they are another discussion entirely.

You put high-octane fuel in high HP engines because they make lots of power, a normal engine doesn't make more power by putting high octane fuel in it. So, unless his engine is built to the hilt, I think Bassil's power increase is all in his head (it costs $8/gallon, it MUST make more power!).

it is high octane racing fuel, VP 110. Damn what everyone says. I know what the octane refers to. I'm not sure what's so special about the fuel outside of the octane chains (110+-1) but whatever it is I got more power! I've never been able to get the front tire off the ground shifting from second to third with a difference of 3000rpm. (I know I should have been matching the RPM's while shifting doh).

You just keep buying it, VP loves you for it.
