View Full Version : Whose riding to work tomorrow?

opie
Sun Oct 7th, 2007, 06:19 PM
It's supposed to be clear but cold tonight. Likely dropping below freezing. Tomorrow's commute looks like starting right at the freezing mark and then going up to the mid 60's.

I'm thinking about riding to work (80 miles r/t). Anybody else?

Not supposed to be freezing here, but a heavy frost nonetheless.

I'd consider it, if it wasn't such a bitch to get the bike out of the garage right now.

Planning on riding in the morn. The Dub hasn't been out in a week and a half. I love nice weather. 8)

I don't have to work. But was hoping for a mountain ride.

I'm riding. I have the Gerbing's cable over on the Transalp because of the possibility of the clutch going out on the 'busa. Should be fun since I don't even know if tomorrow's a holiday (don't have the company handbook "handy" and I just started). Ah well, if it's a holiday, I'll just have a nice ride home too :D

What holiday is tomorrow?

Columbus Day. I had it as a day off several years ago but not since becoming a contractor. Now that I'm full time once again, I'm not sure.

If I can skip the light on Federal I can get to work in 5 min. Otherwise its 10 or so.

It used to be a 5 minute walk. Then it was a 30 second shuffle to the home office. Now it's a regular 45-60 minute trip, each way. The good news is that if I ride, I can HOV it. Plus riding is much more fun than driving.

Alas, no heated clothing for me (Gerbing, etc). Heated bars are nice though. Don't think I could handle it without that.

Just wear mittens you will be alright.

Good alternative!

Uh.. David, quick question for ya. What's up with the Calvin in your sig line? A touch on the inflammatory side, if you don't mind my saying. Did you drink the water?

What do you mean its just a picture that I made for our newest friend gixxerchica. Its like a ink blot test where you see what you want.

well, out of context... it just looks like Calvin pissing on the Mexican flag. Now, I have no particular feeling towards or against Mexico but imagine others might feel more strongly.

I guess I was just wondering if it was a political statement.

As an aside... Here in the People's Republic, I guess I'm just used to seeing radical leftist pseudo-socialist political propaganda. Anything else is frowned upon.

Since the 170 post thread that started all this has been removed so you can't see the whole story.
DofD I would also believe that there is no reason to stir shit with the Mexican community at large when the problem lies with a single person.

Really! I think Dr. Freud would say you have some repressed feeling about it.
But seriously, you are right about that I usually see all kinds of nasty bumper stickers like the ones you mentioned. I figured its time I start making some of my own. Heres one that I made right after making that one. I have a blank Calvin now so I can pretty much slide whatever I want under the golden shower.

Its bigger than a thunbnail picture because I want to put it on my truck soon. But you get the idea.

BTW I am so sorry for hijacking your thread.

Don't worry I'm not. Just one who's sig offends me. I will take it down when she takes hers down. Where is she BTW? Did she get banned?

Whoa.

Well, I'm not venturing into that. Yikes.

Well, ok. Maybe I'll venture in a little.

For what it's worth, I find it very strange when a person (or group) puts allegiance to a foreign country ahead. I mean, if you really feel so strongly about Mexico, Israel, Puerto Rico or wherever... what the F are you doing here?

Back when I lived in NYC, I bore witness to an event called Puerto Rican Day. The city essentially shut down for it. The parade itself was some of the most over-the-top stuff I've ever seen.

And by the way... I'm 1st generation American. The idea of waving the flag of my parent's home country, especially above an American flag, is unthinkable.

we could only hope that she has....

but back on track of the thread, I'll be breaking out the winter gear for my oh damn early ride into work. Now I just have to decide on which bike I want to ride in on. :)

I need some winter gear. I wish I had a choice of what to ride. I only have one bike. I sold the other one as soon as I got the ninja.

I rode in this morning. I think it was around 45 when I left the house. First cold ride in a while, but nothing too bad. 30 minute commute. The fingers were a little numb and I wish I had something over my ears (in the helmet). But nothing that a cup of coffee didn't fix.

ride wasnt nearly as cold as I thought it was going to be. Stayed pretty toasty, except for me forgetting to close my helmet vents... I think I froze my bald noggin a bit, good thing its not used much :D

Piece of cake. I was plenty warm with my left leg getting the worst of it (not sure why though). I had a balaclava on as well but didn't like it. Helmet's still a little tight and my hair looks like crap. I'll just have to keep using a scarf instead.

The Transalp blocked quite a bit more air than the 'busa does, not that it matters a whole lot though.

Nice ride.

My 5 minute sacrifice to the cold didn't deter from the fun factor. Heated grips are the tits :boobies:

I ride year round. This morning was a delightful ride to work.
It was high 30s or low 40s when I left. Cars were actually moving. Most of my ride is I-70 to downtown.
+1 on the heated grips. Love that on the BMW.
Best of all is when it gets into the teens and I have the motorcycle parking in my building ALL to myself.
Whimps. Just cause you can see your breath is no reason to not ride to work.

I also had an awesome ride in. Was actually a little too warm in my tourmaster overpants and lined Teknic jacket. It was a beautiful day, fairly quick traffic at 7:30am. I saw a handful of other riders and made good time from Boulder to South Denver (36 to 25 to 225).

I think I'll be taking the lining out for the ride home though. It's warm out!

Ok, so riding the Excelsior in today with an open faced helmet was a bit nippy :) Didnt use my winter gloves either so my fingers got a bit cold. That was easily fixed by just grabbing onto the engine block for a couple of seconds and it warmed them right up :D Still a nice ride though and this afternoon is going to be perfect for riding home :D

40 leaving the house. The shorts and sandals were somewhat breezy. However the thermal Hawaiian shirt offered plenty of R-value. Glad I had the helmet on. Oh, and the heated grips were most excellent :D

Don't you mean I can pick it up at the Toad?

..... Oh, and the heated grips were most excellent :D

Why don't they just hire Jeff as the official spokesperson for heated grips?

I rode the long way to work on Thursday…124 miles via BCC, Squaw Pass, CCP, 119 to Golden Gate Canyon. There are def some good things about working a swing shift. Last ride for the Fizzer as she’s really hurtin’ for new valves and rings. Sorry I missed your MotoGP gig today, NN.
