Kinda messed up near the lettering, and the reflections are kinda screwy, but hey I've only had photoshop for like 2 hours...

The program I use (Corel Photo Paint 8 ) can take an original color and switch it for another.

1.I swapped all the bodywork color to white to give me a base to work from.

http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/uploads/VRT250_Base0.jpg

2.I use a window to section off the strips and then switch the rest of the body color to red.

Of course I air brushed some to the areas to get the reflections to become clear and blend with the background.

damn thats awesome man

Thanks. :D

Tink - I would suggest picking up the following book for Photoshop, teaches you a ton of stuff the others don't. http://www.downanddirtytricks.com/

Example:

Took about 15 minutes to do this, please forgive the roughness.

1. Original Pic
http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/uploads/cbr1100xx_ex1.jpg

2. Clipped out section that you would like to alter. Creating a mask over the original image
http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/uploads/cbr1100xx_ex2.jpg

3. Using the mask, start tweaking til your hearts content.

please, for the sake of everyone, don't ever paint your bike that color.

All you guys are just jealous that you get your plain 'ol red, blue, silver, black or yellow bikes. I, on the other hand, get a unique (sp) color on my bike. So, now if you really wanna be like the cool guys, go get your bikes painted copper or even orange. that way i can go get mine painted that crazy metallic green in the other pics! :D

Yea, I'd like to know how you changed the color like that too!
I use the replace color option, and go through and change every shade of yellow to a shade of red. I run into serious problems erasing and adding things tho, like taking off those black wings was what took forever, lol I used the smudge tool and seeped in the color around them until it took over the black compleatly. Took forever and I lose any highlights and shadows in there, but I couldn't find another way to do it :(
anyway i did another one, this is closer to the color i want to paint the bike:

removing large chunks can always be problematic, it takes a long time to retain your details. One suggestion I have is to use the patch tool. This will retain pixel size differences and if done properly, you should be able to retain some of your shadows and highlights. Make no mistake, it takes a while and is a pain in the ass.

I tweaked the color by creating an adjustments layer using the mask.

1. On the cutout layer ctrl-click the layer to get just the items within the layer selected.

2. Select New adjustment Layer

3. Select Color Balance

4. Tweak Away

You should select it before painting it.

Just use the magic lasso, should take about 10 seconds, then it will just paint your selection.
I think you hold down ALT when selecting to add, I am at work so can't test to find out.

Then changing the color should only be a 30 second job.

I had forgotten that, I bought it along time ago.

But, there's nothing in that book that you can't find on the web! For example: http://www.planetphotoshop.com/
