Ok, so I've been pondering aftermarket stuff for the Zed and have been looking, but it's really hard to find stuff for the Zed, since it was in production for only 3 years. But, I've got some questions and hope to get some usable answers, so here goes:

Let's say I wanna find some flush mount signals and there aren't any for the Zed, but I find a bike that is very similar to the Zed and it has some OEM flush mounts. Should I just go ahead and purchase? Or, what things should I look for in the similar bike that would help me make a more informed purchase decision?
Does anyone have a place they like to use for aftermarket Kawi parts? Please share. Thanks for any help and I may have more questions later.:)

Check the Parts Unlimited catalog. From what I remember, they have pages and pages of turn signals. Flush-mount, short-stalk, long-stalk, etc...

Even though they may not say they are specific to your bike, they tend to be pretty interchangable, and will more than likely fit, if they look like they'll fit.

Also, I'm guessing they'll be a sight cheaper than anything OEM you buy, and if I were a betting man, their fitment will probably be smoother sailing, than trying to get another model's OEM flushies to fit.

That's what I was hoping for.

Cathy,

electrically the only thing you need to know is if you have 2 or three wires going to your turn signals. Other than that it's all cosmetics, pick the ones you like the looks of.

Its a Kawi, 2 wires and you'll need a resistor to keep the flash from blinking fast. Being its a Kawi I would look for 03-06 ZX6R LED's and they should mount up fine.

Not only looks, but price...holy cow what a range! Oh and the OEM flush mounts are cheapest at 17.95. At least that's what I found so far. I've also been taking a peek at fender eliminator kits and they come in quite a range as well, and with/without turn signals.

as far as general aftermarket parts, the internet is your oyster. Couple sites I keep an eye on:
www.indysuperbikes.com (http://www.indysuperbikes.com)
www.motomummy.com (http://www.motomummy.com)
and you can always check a maufacturer specific forum like www.kawiforums.com (http://www.kawiforums.com) to see if a. they have any threads specifically discussing your model/year, and b. if any group buys are being done that you could get in on. These types of forums tend to have a wealth of information pretaining to specific bikes and quirks people have run across throughout the course of maintaining & upgrading them where forums like the CSC are much better for general bike knowledge and local dealer/track/shop info. my $.02

They also have an integrated LED tail light with turnsignals that make the fender elimination super easy (available in 7 colors for your Zed)

Thanks guys. I pretty much forgot about the bike-specific forums. Must be one of those things that goes when you ride a Kawi.

Other than that...here's another question...Do I want to worry whether or not the signals are DOT approved? I mean, what's the dif? Does it mean "ticket time", or that I'm just making myself less visible?

Oh and trust me Mayo, there are several things I'd like to do, but cash being non-existent has me settling for what I can do in all practicality. I'm still gonna do the cheapest set of grip heaters as possible, since my fingers are all messed up. Should see them after I've been riding in lower than 60-degree weather...funky shades of white'ish/blue'ish/purple (ish) and in spots and splotches.

Oh and Jim...if I don't have to worry about DOT stuff, are there green signal lights as well?:)

i of course do not have D.O.T approved signals and have yet to have an officer question it.
even to the bigger point is that i have 2 wire front signals which means that they do not act as running lights.
i guess it's all in how much attention you attract from the johnnies
