Tue Apr 22nd, 2008, 05:14 PM
it's time again people for us to get out there and enjoy the company of our fellow coloradoans.

here is the plan as it stands.
we will meet at Andrea's Located in Lyons, Colorado (http://www.andreashomesteadcafe.com/) around 9am on sunday May 25th. have some breakfast and cloud the parking lot like we always do.
i have made reservations for 10-15 people for this day.
there is a reservation under my name ..."mayo" for a table for 15.
if you would like something to eat before we head out. please arrive early enough to compensate.

we will try to leave around 10ish am for parts to the south.
hopefully pick up a few stragglers on our route.

speaking of. this is our suggested route for this year.
thank you mtnairlover.
memorial_daymap (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=216+E+Main,+Lyons,+CO+80540+(Andr+ea's+Homes tead+Cafe)&daddr=riverside,co+to:Peaceful+Valley,+Uninc+Bould er+County,+Boulder,+Colorado,+United+States+to:ned erland,co+to:central+city,co+to:hidden+valley,co+t o:pine,co+to:deckers,co+to:Woodland+Park,+Teller,+ Colorado,+United+States&mra=pe&mrcr=7&sll=39.587525,-105.316245&sspn=1.815982,2.120361&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=39.751545,-105.323181&spn=0.905877,1.263428&z=9)
we will continue on from lyons and up 7 to turn off to head towards nederland.
gas stop in nederland and off we will go!

stop off in blackhawk to pick up some southern folks.
meeting point has been designated as "the isle of capri".
same as last year.
then off again towards deckers.
from deckers down to woodland park for another gas stop.

i'm sure we will have other gathering stops as well during this ride and some of the plans may change as we draw closer to the date.

for those of you who would like to join us. feel free to post up ideas for meeting points(gas stations, resturaunts) along this route.

the more the merrier.

Ok, so here's some thoughts on stopping points to meet up...

Nederland
Blackhawk/Central City
Evergreen

Places to eat?...

Blackhawk/Central City -- a casino would probably work and if it's the Isle of Capri again, we know they can handle a huge, hungry crowd

Idaho Springs -- I've only eaten a couple places there and not sure if those restaurants can handle a huge crowd...but, I love me some Beau Jo's

Evergreen -- been way too many years since I've stopped there to eat, so anyone's guess is as good as mine

Ideas? If we stop any other place for lunch other than Central City/Blackhawk, then someone let me know a favorite place that can handle a huge crowd. I'll do some calling around as well and will post up if anyone would rather not stop at the Casino.

This message has been brought to you by...thoughts of the impending cloudy/cold weather forecasted for later this week, which is throwing me into a relapse of my winter hibernation mode...:cold:

Like Ralph said, skipping that section takes out some of the best parts of the route.

Tommy Knocker’s would be a better choice for a large group in Idaho Springs. You’ll be waiting a while for a table at Beau Jo’s on a holiday weekend.

Have you considered how crowded a casino is gonna be on a holiday weekend…and parking?

mtnairlover
Mon May 19th, 2008, 07:32 PM
Yep. We were there on the very same day last year. Parking was fine...we had a whole side of one of the levels in the parking garage to ourselves with about 45-50 bikes. The buffet was fine as well, as not all of us ate and then some of us had a sandwich at the deli instead.

It's one of the solutions that seemed to fit the need the best.

Someone I work with suggested Kermits Roadhouse, but I'm not sure where it's at exactly. It's supposed to be biker friendly and the grub is like "greasy-spoon" kind of grub.

Harley bar. The service is shit, the place looks unhygienic, but their pork green chili is fucking out of this world. I think it has crack or something in it. SO GOOD.

I stop there on my way home from skiing, often.

EDIT: They also have hot dogs, I think, but their main food is the home-made chili. They have red chili, too... but it's not as good as the green. OMG.

i will assume around 10am ish....just my assumption though.
it all depends on how the start of the ride progresses from lyons.
last year was slow going up 7 till we got to 72

Um...correction...we'll leave Lyons around 10 (according to original post), so we'll more than likely be in Ned around 11, everything going the way it should go, of course. I'm thinking Blackhawk by 12, maybe 1230'ish.

My thought(s)?

We don't know how many people are gonna show. When I took the Northie's up through Lyons last weekend to meet up for the n00b ride, I took a corner along P2P and looked back at the other side of the mountain and watched as all 23 of us were rounding the bend. It was freakin amazing, but kinda not so good as far as traffic is concerned. Sooo...we'll have to play it by ear, but first thought...break up the huge group and wait at turn-offs. We'll have to talk more in Lyons on Sunday.

rforsythe
Wed May 21st, 2008, 07:39 AM
I think we should try and break up the group some, but that only works to a point. Basically the pace is however fast you feel comfortable going at your personal level of skill (note the difference between that and "the fastest speed you can maintain at all times"). I personally don't care who's in front or how fast they're going, I will get there when I get there. The only thing I have to prove on a bike is that I can get back home alive. ;)

As long as she can ride safe both for herself and everyone else, she should be fine.

holy crap this is gonna be a huge ride this year.
the looks we got from people that were at the cafe just to eat were beyond defining.
this year i don't think there will be any parking left.

if it gets much bigger,we may need to find a larger starting point.

i agree with the large group ethics.
we will need to determine who will lead certain groups and who will run sweep.

also....if there are any that are a bit more spirited in the morning.
please volunteer to be "rumrunners"
you will leave before the major first group(by about 5-10minutes)
your purpose will be to make it to the next stop while looking for any pertinent road hazzards that may falter the group.

any takers???

also.
it was a close call for me today.
i had to take the day off work over a muscle spasm in my lower back.
thank the doc for needling me and sending me home with scripts.
i could barely get out of bed this morning, but no more than 2 hours since the shot and i am moving a bit more freely.

i was forbodding having to explain anything that would leave me with the inability to join this ride.

so in finality.

let's rock

Hey Mayo & Cathy,
Looks like I'm out of the run (for the 2nd weekend in a row). Apparently Jim (TFOG) doesn't carry all essential parts for an 2001 R6 (by essential, I of course mean the ones that only I need). He has great service, and great prices, but come on, what kind of shop doesn't carry every part for a 01 R6? Geesh, people these days! Parts won't be in till Tuesday :( So unless I figure out a good way to steal a bike, not get caught and then return it; I'll have to wait for the 4th annual. Have a blast.

feel free to post up ideas for meeting points(gas stations, resturaunts) along this route.

Gas station in Conifer on the left just past the stoplight, or the parking lot across the street if the group is large. Deckers. Farm Crest gas station/store on the right at 67 and 24 in Woodland Park.

I didn’t leave the house til 11, so I thought you peeps would be ahead. I made it to Woodland Park before you left Blackhawk. Saw some of you in Pine Jct at the light. Good ride, 167 miles, no LEOs and not bad traffic considering a holiday weekend.

It was a fun ride today! Good to see everybody, and even meet a few new ones. I'm bummed I had to duck out after lunch and miss deckers. Next time.

And go figure, out of all of the bikes, doing the whole distance of P to P, I get pulled over by Johnny Law on the way back. After discussing the concept of 61 in a 45 is not really speeding, he wound up letting me off. He was alright.

Thanks Mayo and Cathy!

Ok, so my day started off in grand fashion with a ride up hwy34 and down hwy7 to meet up with everyone in Lyons. Meeting up with the southies in Blackhawk was a hoot, not only cuz they were on the wrong parking garage roof, but because Dallas called me and told me they were on the Isle of Capri roof. I kept turning in circles going, "Really? You're here?!!!"

I think after all was said and done, I put a total of 320 miles on my bike today. Can't wait for more rides.

A few of my pics...

The buffet was great. I'm glad I didn't get my typical side ache after eating like I usually do if I still have a ways to ride.

I just got home from the BBQ and I am one tired kiddo. Although still too wound up to sleep. ADHD SUCKS! LOL

But holy moly what an amazing ride. As I told someone else earlier, I really feel kinda blessed to have had such an amazing day, amazing weather, amazing riders, amazing FRIENDS.

I am just amazed (apparently :-)

You guys were just wonderful today and I guess I consider myself pretty darn lucky to know such a great group of people that I can ride with, hug and kiss on, and just have great times with.

You all are the Bomb Diggity. Northy/Southies freeking ROCK!!! God I love you guys.

We had a great time on the way to Deckers. On the way home I almost hit a deer. Luckily the deer saw me and started skipping sideways and jumped back over the guardrail. Then when stopping at the stop sign to turn onto 285 N my hubby almost got rearended by some stupid cager who thinks texting and driving is a good idea. I'm sure Cathy's group saw the lady swerve into the dirt to miss running us over. Then at the gas station in Confier my hubby almost got hit by a car and that guy was on his phone. Then getting onto C-470 some idiot decides to cut me off. But other than that it was awesome. :)

Cathy and daemon, thanks so much for sharing the pictures... looks like good times!!! :)

I'm in Hastings rootin' for our north-centralers racers, Aracheon (Chris, MRA #411) and Slo1299 (Jay, MRA #510)! :) And it's a blast watching the Ladies of the Rockies tear it up on the track... along with all the other racers!

Makes me excited to do it again.
