Very cool pics. If there was life in those galaxies, millions of years ago when they collided, how do you think they dealt with their assured destruction? Don't you think it would be situations like this, in the Universe, that would push people to leave their planets and galaxies in search for other places to colonize? It would be a hell of a motivating factor for sure.

Galaxy collisions are a normal function of the universe and occur all the time. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way has merged with multiple smaller dwarf galaxies over time, in fact scientist have theorized that the milky way actually isn't our home galaxy and our solar system originated in one of those smaller dwarf galaxies - Sagittarius I believe.Currently the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxies are moving towards each other and will eventually collide. Aside from the changing celestial scenery a collision usually doesn't affect the planets; in other words we probably wouldn't notice besides the sky changing.
