View Full Version : IMI, what bike should I take?

I'm gonna go to IMI tomorrow, I've been hitting the canyons for a couple years, but never been to a track before....

Should I take the 95' Ninja 250, or my 04' GSXR-1000?

I was thinking the Ninja being a smaller, less powerful bike for the more technical track, but my friend says I will be wishing I had brought the Suzuki once I get there?

Ninja 250. Besides being better suited for a cart track, that's the more droppable bike. And if you don't like it, you can try the GSXR1000 next time. :)

For IMI, definitely the 250, unless you like staying in first or second on the thou.

I have ridden a liter bike on IMI, but it requires great throttle control to even try and keep up with anything else.

Agreed.

But that's not to say it can't be done - Jay pulls some pretty good times out there on his GSX-R 1000.

After I had lunch in Firestone, I thought about how I was riding and what I could do to improve...

I decided to go back to the track for a few sessions, and worked on getting more of my upper body and ass off the bike, lower and more forward.

I also worked on getting my lines tightened up..

By the end of the day I was passing most Vespa's! :)

Here is a pic from this morning, I don't have any of the afternoon, but I looked kinda like the second pic..:)

I KNOW! It also had Termis!

BTW Patrick: did Unsuk get any pics of me dragging peg, or did she only get pics of me dragging ass?

She said that she saved the ass picks for herself!!! Damn asians with their hot asses!

Psycho,

I actually let someone borrow the bike for the first race of the season, and that was the number he chose, so if you give me some good money, I can give you his name! ;)

Regarding the original discussion of 250 vs 1000 for IMI:

I have ridden my wifes 250 ninja in the canyons some and the suspension seems way too soft to safely ride aggressively. It seems the bike would need some serious suspension upgrades before it would be good at IMI. I am particularly curious because I am trying to find a day to go and I ride an Aprilia RSV. I had not previously considered taking my wife's 250.

Just because you gave me some shiny jewelry swingarm spools doesn't mean that you own me!

Travis,

I am probably going to head to IMI around ten or eleven. Are you working this week?

BugHunter
Tue Jul 1st, 2008, 02:21 PM
Yep, working all week but I will try to get out of Denver around 3:30. That would put me at the track at 4-4:30. Unless something comes up that's the best I can do. I hope you're still around. There are a few of us that are trying to plan an IMI day Sat the 12th. If the weather looks good for that day I will post and try to drum up some intrest.

Our first baby is due in December so I'm takeing a couple years off. I'm still planning on doing track days and IMI but the time and money involved in racing is to much. Originally I was going to keep the R6 but now I need to pay off the motard.

My ex-wife used to make people look stupid all the time at IMI on an old Ninja 250. You just have to play within its limitations... I've ridden a Mille at IMI... Fun, but big.

Including motors?

one 07 WSBK/AMA bike
one 08 AMA SS bike
one 07 AMA/MRA SS bike
one nasty friggin 200hp+ big bore engine/car kit etc etc :alien:

not sure how many of the above will be on the chopping block, it all depends on the DMG rules and Suzuki's participation in racing in 2009....
