Some people hated that she was not old money...and found her wealth from gold.

What about an old gun fighter. They were famous and always made waves. Say like Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickhock. Just some ideas.

Thomas Jefferson - had "relations" with his slaves
Jefferson Davis - President of the Confederacy
Benedict Arnold - duh.
Richard Nixon - Watergate
Amelia Earhart
Charles Linberg - Lindberg baby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindberg_baby)

just some quick ones off the top of my head

Ralph Nader
People used to love him when he was working on consumer protection; he accomplished quite a bit and was pretty famous (I think) for it. Then he was blamed for losing the 2000 election to Bush. Now he seems to be regarded as a joke.

Douche bags are not controversial. They are only good for one thing. He fits the role nicely.

Seriously?? :wtf:

You should have at least said Marshal Mathers, or at least somebody who is mildly topical.

Have you been discussing pop culture with John McCain again, Scott?

no, not really...was my one joke in a list of serious names...

McCain has suspended all reasonable conversation until someone else solves the problem related to the financial markets.

And it's Jerry Mathers (As the beaver!) geez.

.

yeah but thats all I got... cant do a 5 page essay about her not being liked by other rich folks....

Little more info

Presidents - to broad to narrow down the great ones and what lead to being contraversal in 5 pages Other wise I would have picked honest ab

Person that I like- if I'm going to write about them making waves.... I would then like to write about their greatness and achivements

so no hitler
no britney spears, madonna, paris hilton peeps

Can't stand Kayane West :slappers:

~Barn~
Thu Sep 25th, 2008, 11:14 AM
- Cindy Sheehan
- Cat Stevens
- John Carlos and/or Tommie Smith
- (Good call on Kobe Bryant, JJ)
- Mychal Judge
- Nikola Tesla
- Bobby Knight
- Ryan White

I would say above all else, show some uniqueness and creativity. Be a little atypical, and choose somebody that makes for good research, but hasn't already been covered ad nauseum by popular media.

G'luck, sounds like a fun project.

Can't stand Kayane West :slappers:

Fair enough, but chances are you aren't a big fan of Adolf Hitler either; doesn't mean it won't make for a solid paper. Don't lose focus of the pursuit, before it even starts. ;)

Maybe, as a little extra challenge pick someone you DON'T like or don't know if you like or not. Being open to other ideas (especially ones that I don't agree with) is one of the best things I got from my education.

Nelson Mandella
as for someone you hate who likes to make waves, how 'bout Michael Moore
You could always do the author of A Million Little Pieces & how he claimed the book was true & lied to Oprah.

Thu Sep 25th, 2008, 11:31 AM
yeah picking someone I dont like is the easy part... i can go on and on one people I dont like
hitler
kayane
paris
Hilary Clinton
Manson
Michael Jackson
Domer

Martin Luther might be a good one though... I really wanted to Molly brown but I just dont think she caused enough controversy. She definantley broke rules of the female high society behavoir. But Need more substance.

If I cant pick a person I like I may have to go the easier route on someone I dont like.

like maybe someone might ask the question about a person...Hero or Not

Martin Luther King is too easy, half the class will probably write about him.
You really can't be having such a hard time with this, history is littered with famous controversial figures! I would stay away from pop-culture icons, unless they made waves about something that was important.

Tom Martino?

On one hand, a working man's hero... always sticking up for the little guy

On the other, a complete asshat scum sucker who has been accused of using the same business practices that he destroys others for.

^^ Perfect! You've got insight to a figure that no one else gonna have! If you can't put together 5 pages on someone you've worked for then you're gonna have a hard time in the rest of that class!

It depends on how you classify famous. Tom is pretty famous in the Denver area. Heck Randy, you're pretty famous on the CSC!

Eh, degrees of reknown. I would count local celebrities as famous, albeit to a lesser degree than a president or prominent national political figure or icon. He made it into Wikipedia so it could be argued that there is another degree of poplularity.

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were in the news again recently. And their story leads right into Joseph McCarthy's rampage on American society.
