First look at radical new Triumph.

Newcastle Upon Tyne, 4th December 2003 — This radical new concept is designer Keith Lupton’s vision of what Triumph’s TT600 should look like. The 23-year-old designer, who is currently working for design consultancy ‘Xenophya Design’, produced the original design in as part of his ‘Transportation Design’ degree course at Northumbria University.

The brief was to produce a successor for Triumph’s then current 2001/2002 TT 600. “I like Triumph as a brand, but I was disappointed by their product line up. I really wanted to get away from their pipe and slippers image,” explains Lupton.
“I felt that small companies such as Triumph shouldn’t want to imitate their Japanese competitors. They should do things, which are innovative, evocative and daring. I personally believe that companies such as KTM, CCM, and Aprillia have the right idea.”

The innovative features of Lupton’s design include opaque side panels, which allow the observer to see a silhouetted engine behind the bodywork. This celebrates, rather than hides away, the engineering whilst adding to the moody, lean aggression of the overall styling package. The underseat exhausts double up to provide structural support for the slim line seat unit. The clocks, which set into the tank also, display diverted text and e-mail messages. Despite the radical appearance of his design Lupton insists that none of his innovations are out of reach of today's manufacturers, “It was important for me to produce an original, innovative design statement whilst keeping the project within the realms of feasibility.”

Since graduating from Northumbria University, Lupton has continued work on his project; “I wasn’t happy with the overall finish of the model and I wanted to re-visit some of the design details”. With images of the completed project in his portfolio Lupton approached the consultancy ‘Xenophya Design’. Mark Wells one of Xenophya’s senior partners told us “We are very happy to have Keith on board he is a versatile and talented young designer who makes a great addition to our team.”

The finished design proposal can now be seen on Xenophya Design’s website www.design-consultancy.com

While I thought the mock-up was cool looking, I was surprised it got so much coverage. I mean afterall, as you all pointed out, this isn't even a working motorcycle. College kids all over the planet have new design models they work with... It would have been much cooler if this was really a bike to ride.
