Those old boats are pretty nasty when they are submerged running electric only. They are as quiet as modern day attack subs, just not as fast. Run that thing around 350' and the sea gets pretty calm. You woulndn't even know you were out to sea, well, except the fact you were 350' underwater and in a big tin can.......

Fortunately they are DE boats that are copies of German Type XXI's (WWII vintage). SOSUS will hear you clear across the planet in these things.

But they sleep 54 and we can install a bar/disco in the forward torpedo room for Tamira and Mel...

Dear submarine fleet seller,

I am coming to the state and would like to make purchase of your product. Bcause my employer (The standard business of london, UK) finances my holiday will have to send check of 4.5 million dollars US. You can send me fleet with rest of money by periscope. keep $100,000 US dollar for you trouble.

The submarine is cool but would be difficult to use in Colorado.

How about a T72 battle tank?

Doesnt it take like 10+ people to even drive one of these around? (Well ok in The Hunt for Red October it was like 5 but still)

For the low price of $49,700 you can be one of those 10! Operators are standing by.

The page I googled on it said a normal military crew is 56, but for non-military use it could be handled with about half that much. Bear in mind the systems are 50's era, so no computer control. Everything is manually-controlled so it just takes a lot of hands to manipulate.

Shea will talk them out of it, Jeff knows how to pole dance so it will be a constant moving target, Dana knows WOW and Barn understands "pings".

Plus, who in their right mind is gonna shoot at a Hello Kitty submarine.

T-34/85 preferably

But of course, ya need the big gun. (Though the smaller turret 34's were prettier.)

Or how's 'bout a KV-2?
Has a huge gun and is so ugly it's almost beautiful.

(Strong like bull, smart like tractor, beautiful like KV-2 tank.)

Interesting. One atmosphere doesn't sound too impressive though, but I guess if you're underwater at all, you can be a "sub".

Google's Quote of the Day is appropriate:

"I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

You better be short if you want to ride around in that old Soviet armor.

When I was a kid I got to climb around in a T-34/85 and a T-55 at an Armed Forces Day celebration. If you're over 5'5" tall you'd have a tough time getting in either one. I bet the T-72 isn't much better.

The one-atmosphere refers to the cabin pressure. The various models are rated to 250'-1200'. SOCOM is showing a lot of interest in it.

250' depth is equal to one atmosphere? Wow. I must have a different idea of what the metric of one atmosphere is. I'm thinking 14.6-ish PSI.

I think he's trying to say that the cabin is pressurized to one atmosphere not above that. Hull reinforcement takes care of everything else.

SOCOM always gets the best toys. When I was with 19th Group I was amazed at the difference in the level of equipment compared to a regular line unit.

No, it's the pressure INSIDE the cabin, i.e. it's just like being at sea level for the people inside the thing.
