Pretty remarkable stuff. A doctor was able to place bone marrow from a genetically-immune person in a Leukemia patient with HIV. The marrow replicated and seems to have actually cured the man's AIDS. It's certainly a long way from anything that could be considered as a usable method, and has a high mortality rate in and of itself (to say nothing of the disease), but it's still groundbreaking.

That is the kind of person we should pay millions to (dr and donor patient), not athletes and musicians.

But isn't HIV not AIDS? I mean they are not the same thing, right?

Either way, it's pretty miraculous. Nice how researchers have this never-give-up attitude.

Edited my first post slightly to reflect the difference. Basically, HIV is a virus. AIDS is the condition that results and ultimately kills you. It's possible to live with HIV for years without contracting AIDS.

AIDS: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

HIV: Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Just to clarify!

P.S. There aren't really any nerd emoticons or I'd have used it! :)

that is pretty awesome.

I know cats have their own form of AIDs (am I right?) and I think I read an article awhile ago that was saying they had found a vaccine for them. Crazy!

I think it's called FIV.

I've heard that. Also have a feline herpes. A friend had one, she was always giving it meds and trying to keep it unstressed. She says it acts up when the cat gets stressed and the whole event is pretty nasty.

One more reason dogs are better than cats.

This is good news. But is the doctor saying that AIDS has cured completly? No sign of HIV either? Did his leukemia get cured too?

Just one more reason to cover the stump before you hump.

Money fixes everything. Some times it takes years and lots and lots of money but it happens sometime.

This is really good to hear
